Hello! I just wanted to make a thread specifically for those who are applying to the Samuel Merritt ABSN for a spring 2017 start. I'm applying to start in April 2017. It's the only program I'm applying to, as I can't afford more than a year without an income and I really want a BSN and not an MSN at this time. I'm done with my application, just waiting for nursing CAS to verify all my transcripts before I click submit! Currently working full time and taking my last 3 pre recs online. What about you?
Hi Nathalie, I am a divorced mom with two kids and can't afford to stay without a job for more than one year as well. I am waitlisted, and I put SM April Cohort as my first choice. Is that list valid for Oakland cohort in May and SM cohort in June?. I would like to know how are my chances to get in. My place is 31/40. thanks for the insights! I was told the waitlist it is only for my first choice. really? why having so many waitlisted students then? what the point? thanks again!

good for you for going back!! I have two kids also cant imagine how hard it would be divorced. Your kids will be so proud of you. I'm not sure about how the waitlist works, but if you don't get in this time take another class online that is super easy to boost your gpa and try again. You will get there!
Hello,
I am planning to apply to the SMU Fall 2017 ABSN Cohort. Does anyone know if they allow prerequisite courses in-progress? Application deadline is April 1st and I won't finish my prerequisites until July. I have taken 3 of 4 Science prerequisites so far and have 4.0 GPA in those.
Thanks!
I was told last year when I applied but had to push back to this year that as long as it was done by right before the start of the May start of my program, it was acceptable. I have emails from the counselor about it too but I would email them so that you have it in writing as well. They are very quick to respond :)
I would also say that it is worth it to apply once with the chance of getting rejected if you think your gpa and stats are high still- you could still get in. Even if you get rejected this time around and then try again next year, it will show your determination and commitment to get into their program.
I obviously don't know for sure, but I met with admissions counselors on several occasions, and I would say first of all if any of your science classes are in progress, I think that is going to hurt your chances more than having, say, sociology and comm in progress. Second, I think it matters less if the rest of your gpa is strong. It can't hurt to apply (I did specifically ask that! It doesn't count against you if you were previously rejected). If I were in your situation I would give the school a call on Monday and set up an apt with an admission counselor to do a transcript review. They are very helpful on when to apply and all that. If you aren't local they can do a phone apt but I highly prefer in person if you are in the area. They usually schedule a month or two out is my recollection.
