Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers School of Nursing - Queens

Published

Hi guys,

can anyone tell me about Saint Vincentsubscribed.gif Medical Centers School of Nursing of Queens such as how far does the admission requirements go for transfer students for ex. overall GPA need to be maintained and such, entrance exams?

You should contact the school and obtain an application. I remember the application fee was cheap (around $30). They have a website, but I'm not sure what it is. The only thing is, the college only offers the ASN (associates) in nursing. If your long term goal is to obtain a BSN at some point, your nursing classes would not transfer since the Queens campus is nonaccredited. I believe the pre-req's would, however, get transferred more easily since the school has a relationship with Queensbourough CC for their students to complete their pre-req's there while completing the actual nursing classes at St. Vincent's. I believe you need to maintain a GPA of 83 overall. I had considered attending the school, but later changed my mind because I prefer an accredited RN program (since I do intend to obtain a BSN in the near future). I'm still waiting to find out if I got accepted at Molloy or Adelphi for the fall. Maybe you should apply to many places and then make your decision later on. Good luck with whatever you decide. :wink2:

I forgot to mention that there IS also an enterance exam to take. You have to call the school and find out what the schedule is.

The application period is over for Fall 2008.

Wow Maryann667, I never knew that campus was not accredited. Thanks for teaching me something new. My mother graduated from there but has no plans of getting a BSN so I guess it didn't matter to her. However, I do know that people in her class did go on to get BSN so I guess they had to take ample amount of nursing courses to do this.

I graduated from SVCMC in 2006. I will be graduating from a RN-BSN program in 2 weeks:yeah:. As for being accredited, not sure of the accreditation status of SVCMC. I'd imagine it was, but what do I know. My license says the same thing as the next RN. I've had no problems with transferring credits from my program towards my BSN. If your pursuing an AA degree, its a great school . The associate in science degree from SVCMC was acknowledged in the 2 SUNY school I applied to (for my BSN).

The school is not accredited by the NLN, which really doesn't mean much of anything. All credits are transferable to almost any program for BS and MS. Many of their graduates have gone on to receive higher degrees.

I had contacted Molloy before applying to St. Vincent's. Molloy told me that the nursing classes from St. Vincent's are not transferable, only the pre-req's are.

Trust me, they are. Mine transferred (went to both schools), so have many students before and after me. They wouldn't be in business if this were the case. And no reputable school would be able to tell you over the phone, they would ask you to come in for a credit evaluation, or in your case, to come in with a copy of the course descriptions.

Not trying to start a debate, I just like to make sure people are not misinformed about the school ;)

That's ok. We're not debating, just providing much need info :wink2:. You're actually right, and I want to further clarify: I just called Molloy because I really wanted a definitive answer. Basically as long as a person has his/her RN from an Associates program, he/she can transfer those credits to Molloy or another 4 year college. However, Admissions told me that most 4 year colleges, including Molloy, do not accept individual nursing classes from any school unless you completed some type of RN or LPN program already. Now I wish I applied to St. Vincent's also! Too bad I missed their deadline, I think.
