Rush GEM Fall 2021

Published

Hello! I haven't seen a thread for Rush yet, fall 21 entry to the generalist entry masters program. I applied earlier this fall and received an interview invite a week or two later. Looking to connect with others!

thanks @cfc224 I'm #16 and not feeling hopeful about my chances. I did get into Marquette off the waitlist, so I know it is possible.

@wildepanda: Congrats on getting into both Rush and the other university! ? If you are comfortable sharing, how were you notified about a scholarship from Rush? I wanted to see whether I also received a scholarship or not ?

I received both the acceptance email and scholarship email this morning within the same hour. I’m on PST so I saw both when I woke up. Hope that’s helpful!

Hello everyone found this thread just now so I'm bummed to be catching up so late.

Congratulations to everyone that got accepted, that's amazing!

I, unfortunately, got #51 on the waitlist ?  so definitely not to confident. I would like to continue to hear back from the people earlier in the waitlist and track their movement, so keep me in the loop!

I was waitlisted also.

Don't give up hope yet. May I ask what number you are?

Thank you!

The ability to sit for the Clinical Nurse Leader exam. I don’t think DePaul has tied into their curriculum. So if you plan on looking into leadership roles as a nurse it might be beneficial to have that certification and knowledge.

Thank you! ? That helps out a lot cause the tuition are about the same for both.

By any chance, did any one else get an offer for a scholarship? I'm wondering if I should inquire about scholarship to the Admissions Committee ?

I was also accepted but did not receive any scholarship email. I did email (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) to inquire about this, so I will let this forum know once she gets back to me!

Also, I am not sure if I'm accepting or denying my spot... I still haven't heard from UIC and their program is much less expensive for in-state students.

For individuals who got accepted.... are you guys just planning on taking out loans to pay for Rush? I did the math and its such an expensive program.... I'm honestly feeling quite scared knowing how much in loans I may have to take out for Rush's GEM MSN program ?

@remis58 The cost of these direct entry MSN programs is a bit heart-stopping. I've been accepted to Marquette and UT Austin, waitlisted for Rush. The cost of all of them has me concerned. I also applied to a local state school for an ABSN and am strongly considering accepting an offer there when I hear back on decisions.

I've done some soul searching over the weekend about the whole ABSN vs GEM and I'm just not sure it is worth it -- for me. I am also looking at all the moving and living expenses associated with the GEM programs I've been accepted to and then the pay...how long is it going to take me to earn the extra $30K (just tuition) plus interest. Is it worth it to uproot my family?

I just want to be a bedside, best that I can be, nurse. It's been quite the existential-esque weekend. I say if you get the scholarships go for it, if you don't and you think you're going to stress for the next 2 years about how much you're going to have to pay back go with UIC if you get in. At the end of the day a hospital isn't going to pay you more because your resume says Rush versus UIC...

I was accepted toO and I didn't receive any scholarship information either. If you can let us know what (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) says. The program is certainly expensive so I do anticipate taking out some loans if I decide to go to Rush.

Couldn’t agree more. And if you decide to move on to a more advanced degree, you could do it with either the BSN or MSN. And if you’re doing bedside the MSN isn’t necessary, but after a few years may  open up opportunities for more leadership roles or higher pay. But going into the field without experience, you will have the same pay as someone with a BSN. You can also get the MSN later and possibly have your employer help with the tuition. It all depends on your timeline and comfort in taking out those loans. Either way, I’m sure you will be a great nurse! ?

@redivy do you know how much the difference in tuition is for both UIC and Rush? I couldn't find anything about extra fees other than cost per credit hour on Rush's website. When I did the math for it, it seemed like UIC was more expensive than Rush (minus any fees for Rush).
