I'm currently a PSW in ontario, & i'm almost done the Practical Nursing program.
I'm curious to see what type of monthly income any other RPN's in Ontario are currently making.
I'm a single female, no kids, and still struggle on a PSW salary, at $16/hour, i'm curious to see how much of a life-change will take place financially once i'm a graduated RPN.
If you feel comfortable, how much do you make a month, after taxes, as an RPN in ontario? & where do you work?
Also, is it hard to find full-time, well paying work after graduation? I heard it's quite hard for new grads to make full-time pay?
Thanks :)
i'm a RN here in Philippines. I am still in process of getting registered as RN in Ontario. I'm still trying to work on the BET forms. It might be a while until i get my eligibility for CRNE. i have so much to take care of since i'll be leaving for Canada alone in June or July, no relatives in Ontario, no job waiting.. etc.
so, i'm struggling whether i should apply for RPN while waiting to get registered as RN, or just go for PSW. what do i have to do to be a PSW in Ontario? do i have to go through trainings/courses and earn certifications? how much would it cost? what are the requirements?
i hope someone can enlighten me with this option.
thank you very much.
If you applied as an RPN you would still have a process to go through.It's not really any faster. You may be able to get a PSW position without a certificate in a LTC facility. There are PSWs in the hospital that I work in but they demanded that they be PSW certificate holders. The girls I work with are mostly recent grads and their PSW programs were 6 months long, full time.

what's LTC?
so i have a chance of working as PSW then just in case i won't get registered as RPN nor RN by the time i get there... it just depend on where i'll be working right?

LTC=Long Term Care
If you have PR allowing you to live and work then yes you could work as a PSW however if you require a work permit then I doubt PSW will meet requirements

Yes. We are constantly communicating. Talking to patients, families, doctors, other staff within and without the hospital. Computer literacy is required. Written instructions to be sent home.
Which type of communication is your area of concern?
