RPN Wages in Ontario

Published

I'm currently a PSW in ontario, & i'm almost done the Practical Nursing program.

I'm curious to see what type of monthly income any other RPN's in Ontario are currently making.

I'm a single female, no kids, and still struggle on a PSW salary, at $16/hour, i'm curious to see how much of a life-change will take place financially once i'm a graduated RPN.

If you feel comfortable, how much do you make a month, after taxes, as an RPN in ontario? & where do you work?

Also, is it hard to find full-time, well paying work after graduation? I heard it's quite hard for new grads to make full-time pay?

Thanks :)

Well if i were you, I would take health science in a college. Then apply to a nursing program. You have a number to choose from in ont. If not, then take the courses in BC.

Oh yes I know. Its just that I was wondering how high tech the hospitals in Ont. are. Especially since I work in the US and we have just about everything automated (meds, VS, MAR, notes, etc).

It is not necessary to take a health science first.Just do your prerequisites.

I am aware that she needs rereqs. I am saying she can take a health sciences program as this will allow her to able to take more courses than doing them on an indiv basis. She asked for diff avenues.

I appreciate all of your suggestions... and you're right. I am definitely wanting to take a look at all the avenues before i walk blindly. There's a program in Durham which allows for most of these credits to be made available to me at once, in a learning facility... but it too is costly... AND, i foolishly don't have alot of the previous year's prereqs also, so i would require assessment to see how much upgrading i would require, before i could even take the university preparation program.

Now, through ILC (independant learning center online) I CAN actually take whatever highschool courses i want, regardless of whether or not i have the pre-reqs, which i will definitely do if i can. Does anyone know, how a university would assess my education if that were the case? Lets say i DO go get my 12 U pre-reqs for the BscN course without having the grade 11 pre-reqs... as a mature student, would a university accept me? Does my age/mature student status give me any benefits?

You have to talk to an admissions officer at a school you want to attend for the facts you require.

In theory there are marks set out for mature students and it usually reads 65% and age 21. Having said that mature student admission is just as competitive as any other age bracket. So there are really no benefits to applying as a mature student. If you have more than a certain amount of post secondary credits you will not be treated as a mature applicant only a transfer of faculties.

You need to talk to the people in admissions who know the answers and not depend on us.

i am a 32 year old male and want to take the R.P.N course is it worth my time, and effort to do so or should i stick with the P.S.W????

Uh, nurses wage vs. NA wage. Opportunity to work in areas other than personal care?

How academically inclined are you? Willing to study for two years and do homework?

Hi,

Just a quick question. I'm about to migrate to canada this august but I'm still confused about what province should I register. I heard stories that CNO does not have SEC assessment. I just wanted to clarify this. I went to their website but it didn't say anything about SEC just the requirements. I hope you guys can help me on this. Thank you!

You apply to the province you plan to settle in. SEC was implemented to insure the Canadian public of safe, qualified nursing staff. Your need to take the assessment will be determined by the College you apply to after they assess your credentials.

Canadian nurses can't migrate to other countries without undergoing an assessment of their education and language skills, so it really isn't unfair to expect newcomers to meet our requirements.

You need to have childcare and a backup childcare plan.

People in my class worked part time (usually only on weekends) and managed. It all depends on what the job is and much student loans you want to acquire.

The really important thing is your spouse must be supportive. Marriages are put under a lot of pressure.
