I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
Wish me luck!!!
Just because I'm so used to checking everyday....LOL...my progress towards degree no longer lists me as an "applicant" !!! I have the actual degree program loaded ! :)
LOL I check mine every day too!!! Mine hasn't changed yet, when did you hand in your confirmation form, I turned mine in yesterday afternoon.
Thanks, I got my background check confirmation and copy yesterday so I guess I am about a day behind you so maybe tomorrow. I just can't wait to see that "Applicant" be taken off of the degree so that I know I am officially in the system. :) Woo Hoo so now we are just awaiting our campus assignments and then it is free sailing until Orientation!
Happymomma: Are you going to do CPR before orientation? I signed up for BLS for healthcare providers, taking it on 5 Oct through CPR4U on Busch Blvd in Tampa.
I know this question wasn't directed to me, but make sure you read your acceptance letter closely! Mine is in the car, but I am pretty sure it said NOT to register for CPR until after orientation.....
I read somewhere on here that a newly accepted student took her CPR class prior to orientation, and they made her take it again (don't know how true it is, but that's what I read, lol).
I turned my acceptance letter in Monday morning. I submitted the background check request the same day I got my selection letter (Saturday) and got confirmation and a copy of it Monday as well.
I just checked mine because I turned in my acceptance letter and all on Monday morning too, but I'm still considered a applicant.... I'm sure it will change soon! No worries!
I didn't want to sign up for a CPR class until after orientation because of what the letter said.....

I will be waiting until after orientation. Our CPR will be valid for two years from the completion date so I will be taking mine in December so I won't have to worry about renewing again until after our program is completed.

Haha! I'm just as excited! I also checked it everyday....and have you checked your "process toward degree"? Mine lists the nursing courses now!! WOOHOO!!
I found out I was accepted today. Still haven't gotten the letter though. It was like pulling teeth to just get an answer. Finally!
Congrats on your acceptance! How on earth did you get them to give you that answer? It was hard enough to get them to tell me WHEN they were mailing out the letters! ROFL
Well I went to see mf Tuesday morning. The receptionist told me she would mail another one. It's already Thursday and no letter! Don't know what happened. Maybe she sent it to me later than when she promised. So I looked into manatee county last night. I emailed an advisor at 11:30 with questions and got back to me with answers at 11:40. I was going to apply there because their deadline is oct 15th. I emailed mf and called her and left her a message telling her I MUST know at least verbally NOW or I won't have time to get into manatee. She told me to wait till Friday and I wrote back saying I'm on my way down to her office. Finally she said don't come to the campus. And she finally wrote back with the answer that I was accepted.
