I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
if you don't mind me asking what was your gpa? I am just curious as to what a person being placed in the alternate spot might have? I am so nervous. Thak you happymomma. I will let you all know the verdict.
That is an excellent GPA. It is hard for me to believe that they did not accept you. They have become so competitive. Sorry about that sweety. Try not to feel too discouraged you did very well.
My GPA is a 3.62. But i believe the cutoff was 3.44 so you definitely have a shot. Don't give up until the race is over. I will lift you up in my prayers love.

I really appreciate the recommendation on the pants I was flying blind while going through them, they all seemed to look alike eventually LOL.

i was denied because i did not submit a copy of my military transcripts. But the military will not send individuals a copy of their transcripts, only institutions. so i am going to appeal, if it doesnt work i will apply for fall or transfer to USF. I already have two BA's from Penn State. I think it was because Penn State gave me transfer credits for military experience and it showed up on my PSU transcript. hcc must think had some type of formal education in the military??? to who ever got my slot, good for you. make shure you guys tell ex-military nursing applicants about this. because the military will not send you your transcripts and you will not be able to include them in your application packet, you will have to send them to hcc and they will have to add them to your application???

Hi, I was told by an advisor (when I was applying to HCC) that HCC won't accept transcripts unless they come directly from the institution (whether it be another college, military, etc) and are in an unopened envelope...And, once they get them, they update your documents in their system, showing that your transcripts were received. Also, be careful because I believe other colleges follow the same policy. I'm very sorry that you didn't get selected based on that...it stinks. On the other hand, you could have the military send your transcripts over to HCC and apply again in January if you choose to. Make sure to ask specifically if you decide on going to USF. Good luck in whatever you decide!
Congrats to you guys who have made it !!!!! I am a bubble boy with a 3.43 because of C's in English and Calc 20 years ago @ UF (Go Gators !). The cutoff is definately 3.44 per Millie. I was wondering if anyone has heard when the Alternates hear back and if anyone knows the % of acceptances from previous classes? Don't alot of people that are trying to get into USF,UF and UCF also apply to HCC as a backup?
