I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
Wish me luck!!!
you can hand deliver official unopened copies. hcc was sent 2 copies of my military transcripts. the military will only send them to institutions they recognize. the military sent mine to the YBOR admissions office, that is the only hcc address they will send them to. they are somewhere in the hcc system but didnt get into my packet. as they were not requested by hcc until a few weeks ago.

Oh ok, they didn't tell me that they could be hand delivered at all....do you have confirmation that HCC received them? If so, you could try to appeal.
I don't know which campus I have been accepted to, how do I know?
I emailed Mrs. F today and asked her when we'll know what campus we've been assigned to. She emailed me back and said that the campus assignments will be mailed out to us in middle to late October.
Congrats on your acceptance!
Hey guys, I'm thinking of applying for the fall next year, in case i don't get accepted into Nova nursing program. so do they count your cumulative GPA's or the pre-requisite classes? If so my GPA is 3.39 but pre-requisite is 3.70.
Thankfully, they only go by your pre-requisite GPA! Good luck!
well there is some good news, when i started at hcc i had only been a FL resident for 8 months and have been paying out of state tuition. you have to be a resident for 1 yr while not attending school to be in state. if i wait till fall i can change my residency status and pay a LOT less/credit. and it is sailing season, maybe i will just sail around for a while if the appeal dosnt work. i was sick in the stomach all day but managed to skip the grumpy phase and move into the lets fix it phase, i must be mellowing out in my "old age". LOL.
Hi everyone. I'm on my way down to MF's office to see if I can find out where I stand. I haven't gotten the letter yet. For those who feel there were errors you must pursue your case with them. There is a detailed set of rules and guidelines that THEY publish. If they failed to calculate your prereq gpa correctly lay it all out in writting to them and use their guidelies to back yourself up and I can't see how they wouldn't get you in. Good luck!
Hi all and congratulations to all who got in. To those who were denied and feel that a mistake has been made...my advice is to appeal. I am currently in NP 1 but had to endure that appeal process due to a miscalculation of my GPA. I was very depressed when I got my denial letter and was not going to apeal but they were wrong and I was correct. At my appeal meeting the counselor saw the mistake in 5 mins. I still had to wait for the board to meet to make a finial decision but I got in. Remember these are human beings and mistakes are bound to happen....so if you feel like you have a good case speak. What can it hurt. I found out about 2 months later but it was still about 6 weeks before orientation. There was another friend of mine who had to apeal because of an error ad she got in as well. Keep positive.......I know its hardand stressful but remember RN school is harder and more stressful .......so if yo can do this you CAN and WILL be successful as a nurse. Please let me know if you have any questions I will be more that happy to answer as best I can. Keep your head up......God is good.
I wish I got my letter so I knew! Hcc never updated my address as I requested so I went to see Millie just now. The receptionist went in the back to talk to her. I was told she would mail it out again today. For the life of me I can't understand why she couldn't just hand me the letter. I know they are human but there's just no excuse. Oh well I'll just have to wait a little longer..

I am currently in NP 1...there were 4 people that I knew about that were alternates at our orientation, and they ALL ended up getting in because people decided to attend another school or program, etc...
Don't lose hope...and DO plan on attending the orientation!! Congrats to those of you that are in and good luck to those of you on the "bubble"!! :)
