I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
Wish me luck!!!

Haha, at least I know I'm not the only one who is anxious to get my scrubs!!!!! I had to control myself on Saturday when I received my letter! ROFL I am thinking of going to a uniform store locally to try them on. I'm tall and want to make sure they fit. Anyway, thanks so much for that coupon code, maybe I'll use it on a stethoscope, and I saw a really cute bag on AllHeart!
Did you order your stethoscope yet? They recommend a Littmann one, and I've also been advised to get it personalized, because they tend to disappear sometimes.
There ARE some CPR classes that are NOT accepted for the Nursing Program. Just make sure that it is CPR for Healthcare Providers...and that it is an actual CLASS (NOT an ON-Line class), and that it is accredited by the American Heart Association. I would highly recommend taking it at HCC. I took it at the Ybor Campus...the instructor was EXCEPTIONAL, the time FLEW by...and it was actually ALOT of fun!! :)
Hopefulin10: I went to Uniform City here locally and tried on the different brands and styles so I knew which ones I liked the best. I will be ordering my stethoscope next payday, I figured I will buy a little of what I need at a time and that way it won't all be dumped on me during the holidays when I always end up spending too much money anyway. I am pretty sure I will be getting the Littmann Cardiology III and getting my name engraved on it. I checked out prices and allheart was the cheapest ($30 less the Uniform City) so I will be ordering mine from them (I have a 5% off coupon to off set the shipping I will have to pay) Have fun shopping!

That's where I plan on going...maybe this weekend if I have a little spare time! I know which scrubs I like, that are the length I would like (from shopping online) but I'd like to try them on before ordering them of course. I found this website www.medisave.com (in another thread here on allnurses) that offers free engraving on their stethoscopes including cute symbols, (and I've found lots of good reviews on the company), and shipping is cheaper than allheart! I think I'm going for the Littmann Classic II SE, it's one of the cheaper of the Littman brand. I am so excited, lol!
I know what you mean, January can't come fast enough! Yeah, I will be getting the Classic if I don't get the Cardiology, I do like that it is half the price! I just really want to make sure I will be able to hear everything as clearly as possible since it will all be new to me. I checked out the medisave.net and I love the little symbols that you can get, and the FREE engraving!
I went to the Uniform City in Clearwater and the on Kennedy here in Tampa, they both have some clearance tops in the right shade, I got a Dickies top for $9.99 it is cute, not the normal boxy style. I love the feel of the Koi line it is so much softer then the others (they come in tall sizes as well as petite), they did have a lot of their things on clearance but their shirts aren't the right shade and they didn't have any white pants. I ended up ordering the Koi pants with a Landau top with the coupon I mentioned. What ones where you looking at?

I really like that Landau top that was mentioned on here (can't remember if you're the one that posted the link, lol) and since the nursing student from the Fall '10 program said it was the right color, I'm gonna get one of those. Another that I like is the Dickies Empire Waist top http://www.marcusuniforms.com/Productv52-P3871.aspx , is that the same as the one you got on clearance? Which store did you get it at, Tampa or Clwtr? I have a lab coat that I got at HCC for my Microbiology class, I think I'll take that with me when I go shopping, to see which tops match it. As for the pants, the longest ones I've found are the Barco Grey's Anatomy Junior Fit 5 Pocket style http://www.marcusuniforms.com/product.aspx?productid=3382&utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=googlebase&cvsfa=1993&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=3432333254
Amazon sells them in white...but the link above has a better picture. They aren't the cutest ones, but they're not horrible either. lol
There's another place in St Pete that I someone on another thread recommended (except they said it was a very little store). It's www.tampabayuniforms.com .
Yeah I was the one that posted the link to the Landau top, it was the cutest one I could find. The Dickies top you mentioned was on the clearance rack at the Uniform City, I tried it on but ended up getting one that was a little different, it had a tie in the back to cinch in the waist a bit and I got it in Clearwater. I would say Tampa had a bigger clearance section but I didn't find anything in my size that worked there. Both stores where very organized and everything was organized by size and the color, I am not sure what size you are but in the XS size Clearwater had more tops that would work. I tried on the Grey's Anatomy pants and they where comfy (fabric was almost as soft as the Koi) they had a little more of a relaxed fit though. The Koi pants come in tall sizes (33" inseam) as well, I know they don't have white in the store but try a pair on just to see because you can always order them online. Thanks for the link to the other store I will have to check them out!

Wow, that's crazy that TWO letters were delayed like that! I know it's a relief that you got the answer you wanted! Now if they'd just hurry with the campus assignments!
