Role Call! RN to BSN online students........

Published

Let's have a role call. All online RN to BSN students and former students (or those about to start) let us know where you're going, where you are in the program, and how you like it.

I'm in Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences. I just started in January and am in my fourth course "Methods of Nursing Research". I've found the support and the grading to be quite generous. But a lot of hard work!

Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

I am starting the RN to BSN program through the University of Wyoming in August. I can't wait. After I finish then it's on to the MSN.

I just graduated from U. Wyoming's RN to BSN program this past May. I am now moving on to an MSN program (at another school). Good luck! :)

my name is susannah and i am starting my online rn to bsn in the fall at university of south alabama. i just completed the prereqs. i have never taken an online class so i am unsure of how i will make myself do the work! i am afraid that if i do t "in my spare time" that i won't find any and will do other stuff. do you find it hard to make yourself do the work?

Hi Susannah. I will also be starting at South Alabama in the fall, but will be in the MSN program. I have been browsing around the new graduate student forum, but havent found anyone else attending South Alabama. I am a little anxious about getting started, but I'm hoping I'll be okay :)

I completed my BSN in a distance ed. program and that went very well. It worked out much better for me than trying to juggle attending classes with working. I only wish I had done it sooner.

Good luck with the program.

Hi everybody-

I'm starting classes at Slippery Rock University (a PA state school) this fall. The limited contact I've had with them so far has been good; they reply to my questions quickly. I seriously considered U. of Wyoming, and even paid for a transcript review from them, but decided to go with SRU because I would need to take fewer classes. I also found the info from U of W kind of confusing. I'm somewhat anal and like to research something thoroughly before diving in, and it took a while to figure out what classes would satisfy which general ed requirements, and a few other things were a bit confusing. Plus I would have had to take public speaking locally, and the only class offered in my rural area was with a professor I did not care for.

The only non-nursing courses SRU requires are Statistics and Medical Ethics. I think they figure that if you have an associate's degree already, you have done enough general ed. SRU is also cheap, somewhere between $600-$700 for a 3-credit class.

The web site is sru.edu.

Do you find that any of these programs grant credits toward your degree for having a RN license? How much clinical is required and how is it completed? On the average how long does it take to complete the program? Thanks for any responses.

This is online?

Can you jump out of an RN program and into a BSN program?

I finish Excelsior's ADN program this fall.

I am currently taking my 5th class at Uof P online. I like it a lot, I just wish it wasn't so expensive. If I keep on track I will be done a year from now... if not that's okay too!

Some schools have a requirement of one year, others don't. Check with the schools you are interested in and see. Congrats on almost finishing your ADN!

I graduated in May, got my RN license in June, and will be starting RN-BSN online at UNC Chapel Hill, NC in August. By the time I start school I will be finishing the orientation in ICU. Not that I will feel comfortable to work without a preceptor, but at least I can make my own schedule.

Good luck to all of you,

flaced

I am planning on starting online at Oklahoma Panhandle University. They are a small school and NLN accredited. Best of all, online classes are only $200 per CLASS (not unit) although you have to add a $93/per unit charge so it works out to be about $500 per 3 unit semester class. zNO additional fees were asked for or paid which was nice (such as transcript, application or admission fees, etc - nothing!) They were very nice and answered all calls and e-mails immediately and in person.

I already have a BA in Psych so I only need 10 classes to complete my BSN.

UoW sounds like the way to go. I'm basing this completely on the price at this point, any other 'pros' you can add?

Do you mind if i ask how long ago you were awarded that BA? I wonder if there is a time limit on credits you can use from other degrees? In other words, will the credits I earned for my BS (Chemistry) in '97 apply towards my BSN? I know it's probably school specific, and I should probably direct this question to program directors, just wandered if anyone here hand any input.
