RN's out of school for at least 1 year

Published

I just wanted to know how the RN's who have been out of school at least a year or less like nursing so far.

I unfortunately have had more bad experiences than good in the PICU and have decided to get out of bedside nursing. I am currently dealing with trying to find a nonclinical position and still feel like a "nurse", if you know what I mean.

I would love some feedback. :angryfire

I have had mixed experiences... highs and lows, a lot of learning. I have met some truely wonderful people and some real shmucks. I guess overall despite the warts and all, I'm still glad I did it. Graduated May '04, BTW.

I graduated May, 2005, some days I hate it (med-surg) and some days I think that I can do it! It won't be long-term, I'll be moving on to something else (haven't decided what yet), but proud that I'm doing it.

I graduated in May '05 with my BSN. I've been working for five months on a med/surg/tele unit & I really do like my position. I think it helps that I was a float pool CNA in the same hospital for 2.5 years, and then did my senior student internship on the same unit I work on now-so I knew everyone and where everything was, etc. before my first RN job began. I feel that my fellow nurses are very supportive whenever I have a question or need help. Of course there are nutty days but I think I'm getting more comfortable overall. So what was your experience like as a nurse in the PICU? I hope you find a place to work that you enjoy and that treats you well.

How many different jobs have you had? If it has been only 1 job in that 1 PICU, maybe you should try another unit before you decide that direct patient care is not for you. Not all units are the same.

i have been out of school for a year and a half, most of the time i love being a nurse. of course some days are stressful when you just cant seem to keep up. i still get excited when i think that "I am a NURSE". :rotfl: going to school and becoming an rn is the best thing i have every done and i cant imagine doing anything else.

I have a former classmate who did the same thing. She had 2 or 3 jobs in 8 months time. She is working as a nurse in a nonclinical position and she LOVES it. However, I am hearing that most places like you are interested in want at least 1 year of experience, maybe 2. I am not very fond of my current position either. But I am trying to tough it out for at least 1 year, and pray that the year goes by f-a-s-t, and that I come out unscathed/license intact. Good luck.
