Floating too much?
Let me say again, I am floating to a comparable unit. However, I do feel that I being used to staff another unit. That is not what I signed up for and can't help but feel that I could be at another facility with critical needs. I am trying to be reasonable, which is why I posted this. I am going to have say that I do feel that floating once a week is way too much. I feel dumped on. I hate this rule of travelers floating first. I think it should be in rotation. Being a traveler doesn't mean that you should get used to floating and other sorts of "things" and I am really tired of hearing that from people. Travelers are people too and we wouldn't be here if there wasn't a need. Thanks for all of your opinions. And, yes, I will be thinking of putting a floating clause in my contract. Be blessed.

Floating too much?
Hello. I am doing a local travel assignment. The census has dropped in my unit and for the last 3 weeks I have had to float to another unit every week for at least one shift! I am very frustrated with this and also trying to remind myself that its due to low census but I hate feeling dumped on because Im a traveler. What are your opinions on this matter? What has been the experience when traveling out of state and floating? I have several friends who travel out of state and they don't seem to float but I know that it depends on specialty and census. Also, the hospitals around here have the policy that travelers\agency float before anyone else! I hate that rule! Im in Texas, btw. Is this a common policy in other states? Btw, I still have 7 weeks on the contract and Im not looking forward to having to go thru it. I am floating to a comparable unit.

Pros and Cons of Driving v. Flying & How to Pack
I am a NICU nurse from Texs. I am going to be traveling out of state with my next contract and I know a lot of travelers. The majority of them say that they enjoy driving and that it saves money. I wanted to know the pros and cons of driving or flying to your assignment. What are the best tips to know when you drive? I am very bad at over packing so I pretty much know flying would be hard for me. I would also like tips on how you guys pack when flying or driving? What types of things do you bring for the trip, and I am not speaking of clothing and thigs like that? I would appreciate all the advice I could get. I am leaning toward driving and would like to be as prepared as much as possible. I am not sure if I will be making the drive alone or bring a family member with me and fly them back. What types of things do you do to keep yourself entertained? I think I will end up in California, so I wanted to know how long you guys drive before stopping? Do you book hotels in advance or find one when you decide to stop?

Would like to hear some personal testimonies
I am currently doing my second local travel assignment. I really enjoy it and I have decided to go out of state and really experience travel assignments. I have decided to do long distance travel to experience new places\people\cultures and to payoff some debt. I mainly tend to payoff debt the first year and I would love to hear from travelers who have been able to payoff debt thru travel nursing. I would love to know what strategies you used? If its not too personal, an average of how much you have been able to pay off and how fast?

Need help from someone who recently taken the NICU PBDS
I know that there are threads out there about the PBDS. I have even visted the Deplhi forums as well. However, many people did not have much to offer about the NICU PBDS. I would like for someone to give me tips on the NICU one if they have taken it within the last 12 months. I have been in the NICU for a while but have severe test anxiety and would like as much help from my fellow nurses as I can get. Thanks. Feel free to email me if you would like to remain confidential. Thanks and God bless you all.

RN's out of school for at least 1 year
I just wanted to know how the RN's who have been out of school at least a year or less like nursing so far. I am a BSN working in Pediatrics. I unfortunately have had more bad experiences than good in the PICU and have decided to get out of bedside nursing. I am currently dealing with trying to find a nonclinical position and still feel like a "nurse", if you know what I mean. I would love some feedback. :angryfire

Seeking non-clinical nursing position
I do have a BSN. I have tried to look online but not coming up with anything? I do not think I am looking into the right areas\locations. I know that I really do not want to teach in a nursing progarm or anything like that, at least not right now. I really want to work on community outreach programs and things like that. Thanks for the replies.
