HI!

I am new to this site and am very impressed so far. I do have a question for all of you nurses out there. I am looking to do some type of at home work. I have been a RN for 10 years, I have done nursing home, rural hospital, staff develpoment coordinator, and am currently in pre-op and recovery. I am work PRN because I have 3 school age kids and they require alot of transporting to and fro. My husband is a PA for a neurosurgeon so financialy I am able to stay home which is awesome. BUT!!! I feel so worthless by not working. You can only clean a house so many times. I am interested in doing something from home, such as medical transcription, case managing, or whatever but I am having a hard time finding anything and I was hoping for suggestions. Does anyone know of anything that a RN can do from home and still be within the medical field? I truely appreciate any info!

Thanks,

Jamie

You might consider field based case management. You will need to be out on some visits...maybe 1/3 of your work time. I try to schedule all of my visits for 1 or 2 days per week. Workers Compensation, Insurance Companies and Third Party Administrators use field based case managers. Good Luck !!!

If you don't need the money, have you ever considered volunteering for Red Cross? Do wellness clinics and such?

Sounds like we are seeking the same type of employment. I currently contract with a company in Florida called CHCS. It is limited employment though. I do local assessments for them (for insurance companies) and then either FAX of Fed Ex the paperwork back to them. It pays about $70-$80 per assessment.

If someone hears of another third party administrator such as this, please let me know also. I would like to find a few of these companies so I could work solely in this area 2-3 days per week.

If you want to do medical transcription, don't get rooked into going through any of these study programs. You odnt need them. There is a place in New York that will hire you to do transcribing and the only thing you have to do is prove you can do the work.

I would love to work from home but I wouldn't know how to start.

Specializes in jack of all trades.

Would like some info on this company via pm if you could. I'm also in florida.

Specializes in everything but OR.

Maybe telephone triage? There is a forum on telemedicine under specialties on this site. Lots of info on companies..good luck!

Insurance companies use case and disease managers who often work from home. If you want to PM me, I'll give you the link to one I learned about the other day from another poster. Good luck!
