RN to BSN online

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.

One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.

The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.

UOP,

Do you guys have a FNP program?

You'll have to excuse me, FNP?

I think I answered my own question, Family Nurse Practitioner?

No we don't.

With so many of us here doing or having done excelsior RN program why isn't it included? Has anyone done excelsior BSN or MSN? If so what did you think of the program? I am in the middle of the RN program and am just wondering about their BSN/MSN program. TIA

I believe EC requires a "CPNE" type stint at the end of the BSN. I could be wrong but with so many options out there for RN considering the BSN, who would want to go through the CPNE

Maybe someone can enlighten us regarding EC's RN-BSN program.

mona, you hit the nail on the head you must take another cpne, they are know as the tac and the hape. the teaching across cultures (some one correct me if i am wrong) is video based..you send in your video and the health assessment and promotions is done at the testing center. i know that uofp is exspensive but i am leaning in that direction only because we have a campus that i can also attend if needed.

before you start at a campus, contact me. there are so many more advantages to online. maybe a discussion of online vs. campus is necessary as a thread?

To those of you looking into the Univ. of Wy. BSN program, or any other program for that matter, I am confused - can you take all the pre-req courses on line too or is just the nursing courses that are offered online. Thanks

At UWyo - you can take all the pre-reqs on-line or through correspondence. A possible exception would be the science courses, because labs are required. However, they are the same science courses required in most ASN programs, so you should have those out of the way already.

I'm attending Florida Hospital College of Nursing and we have students from all over. We all pay the same tuition. It's about $220/hr. No clinicals except at the end you have to follow a manager/supervisor around. 100% online.

It's NLN approved.

Hi everyone! Brand new nurse here, just graduated with my ASN and passed NCLEX approximately 1 mo. ago. I will be starting new job at a Tampa hospital on 7-15-05. By the way - love this website!!

I'm interested in furthering my career and want advice about online degrees. Is it better to do BSN or MSN? I see that you can do BSN online, can you do MSN online, also? Your advice greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Looking into this myself -- I don't wanna be flipping patients in bed when I'm 67, so I gotta do something else while I'm young enough.

I have a couple of friends doing UOP at work -- one I know for sure is doing the RN-BSN/MSN track, though I didn't see such a direct course (RN-MSN) on the main UOP site.

I'm trying to decide my best options, and my two main concerns are financial (which I'll have to figure out for myself) and "portability" -- I guess that's the word for it.

If I get my BSN, I definitely want to be able to get into grad school, especially if I don't get my MSN through them. I don't know how far I'll be able to go, but I'd like to have the option to go to any grad school -- up to PhD, if I have what it takes to make it that far.

Have UOP grads had any trouble getting into traditional grad schools for Master's or Doctorate's -- or, were they treated no differently? I know that UOP is regionally accredited (perhaps their most important accreditation), but I also know that alot of traditional universities are biased against online education.

I know that an MSN would help my career in the hospital, but what if I want to teach? What if I decide to be a nursing professor? Is that option out of reach with a UOP degree?

goingCOASTAL,

You have valid concerns. When you receive your degree from UOP, it does not distinguish between campus or online. It is just a degree from University of Phoenix. We are regionally accredited, and also approved by the NLN.

As far as MSN degrees, you can do a variety of MSNs with focuses in Education, Integrative Health Care, an MSN/MBA/HCM dual degree, or a focus on Health Care Mgt alone.

Congrats. Depends on your goals and where you want your career to go wether MSN or BSN is better for you.

There are online programs to get your Masters springing up all over the place, so yes, you can do your MSN online too.

Would anyone list the courses they are taking/had to take for their RN-BSN online program, & what school it is? (Especially the lower level courses!)

I have gone to several websites & most of them require you to sign a form for more info. I don't even have my ADN/RN yet, so I don't want to be hounded by school reps! Plus, I'd have to lie! lol

I'm just not an RN yet, and they ask you that question. If you're not, it tells you the program is for those who are RNs already......grrrrrrr

However, I'm working on my RN-BSN lower level courses at the same time while waiting to start the ADN program.

I made a list of the classes I have already on http://nursingjourney.com/grades_RN-BSN.html, as well as a few not listed classes: 2 sophomore level English/Literature classes(B/C), & 3 Spanish classes(B/B/B). (I didn't list these classes b/c they are not required by UT-Arlington's RN-BSN program.)

If anyone would rather e-mail their information, my email is [email protected].

If it is a religous school, I'd prefer it to be Christian..pentacostal, baptist, nondenomiational.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!

I hate that they require you to email them first prior then giving you the info. you need.

Here's where I go and the courses I need to take: http://www.onlinenursing.fhchs.edu/program/info.asp

It's a Christian School associated with the 7th Day Adventists, who know their stuff when it comes to hospitals and nursing education. They require two religion courses "Lessons in Living" which studies Christianity, and not their religion and "World Religions" (self-explanitory), otherwise religion is not really brought up, but they aren't afraid to pray, etc. So while they aren't on your list of demoninations you prefer, I don't think it's an issue.
