2017 RN to BSN Online Program UTA Current/past students

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Hi!

I was just provisionally acccepted to the University of TX Arlington online RN to BSN program. I start May 22nd. I just wanted to touch base ahead of time with anyone currently in the program or that has taken it already. The old posts on the program seem a bit outdated.

I have taken all pre reqs and only need the nursing courses and also tech writing. I registered for professional nursing and tech writing today.

I was wondering how long it took everyone to complete the program with only the nursing courses? I haven't received feedback on my transcripts yet but I'm hoping everything is accepted considering I took the pre reqs almost 10 years ago when I didn't get into the UTH bsn program and did an ADN program instead.

Also, I read a few posts saying you needed to shadow your nurse manager for one of the courses. I'm a clinical specialist so I don't have a nurse manager really. I travel for work on a weekly basis and work for an aesthetics company so it's not a normal hospital based nursing job. I thought the program was completely online so I'm a little concerned about that.

Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi everyone! I am looking into UTA for this fall 2017. I work full time in an ICU in Georgia and am interested how classes are set up. I read some posts in this thread about the papers, discussion posts, and class work. Are most nursing classes set up the same way? Discussion posts and weekly assignments due on two different dates during the week? I work full time weekends (thurs-sat) every week and want to make sure I set myself up for success. I would plan on taking just one class at a time unless y'all think that two is doable at once! Any insight on this?

Hey good to hear.. I start RN to BSN online program this Fall also.

I got the official acceptance email yesterday too! Congrats! I have to take an english and math course. UGHHH! I took Statistics through Psych (Research methods) and I guess they're not accepting it which really blows. I'm not even sure what the English course is because I've taken 1301 and 1302. I'll email the advisors later. When are you going to start? I registered for May 22nd for tech writing and professional nursing.

I assume it's core literature. When do you start?

Taking one class at a time you'll do fine! Yes it seems like all the classes are set up that way. There is a lot of reading but honestly I've been getting away with not going through all of it besides what I need for the assignments and it's been okay. I actually wish I had more time to read everything because it's interesting. But I'm just too busy with work. If you take 1 class at a time, you're in good shape! I'm taking two at a time and I've still maintained an A in every class. I've taken 2 and am on the second week of the next two and so far so good. You do have to keep up with the assignments but they're not too time consuming. Good luck!

I started out taking 1 classes every 5 weeks as I was working 12 hours night shifts and weekend shifts. In the classes I've taken so far, taking 1 at a time is doable. You have to put effort and stay on top of assignments when you're working weekends as assignments are due on Saturdays. Right now I have the opportunity to work PRN as I am trying to finish by the end of the year and I am taking multiple classes. Taking 1 class at a time can be done with a full workload but it will take more time finishing school. Good luck!

Ok, I'm on the early side because I'm not graduating my ADN program until December but I could never find a solid answer on their website (unless I didn't look in the right place) but how does it work as far as being accepted into the RN-BSN program? Is it based off overall GPA? The amount of prequisites you have taken? Or do you just apply if you're an RN and they accept you? I'm sorry if this sound like stupid questions but I'm just very curious about what I am up against next year. (If the program requirements don't change)

I just completed my last class in the program and graduate in May. It didn't seem very competitive when I was accepted. You have to have a RN license and transcripts sent, I had all my pre reqs done but my GPA was maybe a 3.0 at the most and I got in with no issues.

I just viewed the summer schedule. I only have Capstone to take this summer and August 30 will be my completion date. I am sooooo happy!

So you completed it in a year? Did you take 2 classes every 5 weeks for the whole program?

Hi, tay7777. I just applied to the RN to BSN and also have a Psych degree. Similarly, my Statistics class was based on Psych (Psychological Statistics). Based on your experience, I will probably have to take statistics again. Booooo.

On a different note, since I am one year behind you guys (tay777, HeyLove, VonnieC) would anyone be interested in selling me their textbooks. I prefer to read physical textbooks over virtual ones because looking at computer monitors for extended periods strains my eyes. Do they even sell actual textbooks at UTA or is it all eBooks? I haven't enrolled in a class yet -- still waiting on my acceptance email-- so I don't know how it is.

Another cause of concern is I am not currently working as a nurse. It's hard to find an RN job in the state I am currently residing. Most employers want RNs with BSNs, which is why I am trying to pursue a BSN. So it's a Catch 22 for me. I can't find work cuz I am not a BSN, but the RN to BSN program is requiring me to work. Go figure.

I am starting to think I graduated with two worthless degrees: BS in Psychology and an ADN. I suppose I could apply to some kind of RN to MSN program, but they usually require you to work as a nurse as well. (Shaking me head in defeat.)

Anyway, do you have any advice on any of the classes? Anything you would do differently if you can start over?
