2017 RN to BSN Online Program UTA Current/past students

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Hi!

I was just provisionally acccepted to the University of TX Arlington online RN to BSN program. I start May 22nd. I just wanted to touch base ahead of time with anyone currently in the program or that has taken it already. The old posts on the program seem a bit outdated.

I have taken all pre reqs and only need the nursing courses and also tech writing. I registered for professional nursing and tech writing today.

I was wondering how long it took everyone to complete the program with only the nursing courses? I haven't received feedback on my transcripts yet but I'm hoping everything is accepted considering I took the pre reqs almost 10 years ago when I didn't get into the UTH bsn program and did an ADN program instead.

Also, I read a few posts saying you needed to shadow your nurse manager for one of the courses. I'm a clinical specialist so I don't have a nurse manager really. I travel for work on a weekly basis and work for an aesthetics company so it's not a normal hospital based nursing job. I thought the program was completely online so I'm a little concerned about that.

Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

I got the official acceptance email yesterday too! Congrats! I have to take an english and math course. UGHHH! I took Statistics through Psych (Research methods) and I guess they're not accepting it which really blows. I'm not even sure what the English course is because I've taken 1301 and 1302. I'll email the advisors later. When are you going to start? I registered for May 22nd for tech writing and professional nursing.

I think I will go ahead and start with two of the history classes on May 22nd. I'm still studying for my NCLEX, and I should be getting my ATT any minute now!!!

Actually, I just realized that I can take those history classes through a community college which will save some money, and so I can go ahead and start some of the BSN classes on May 22nd!

Who is it that we email regarding transfer credits for equivalent courses? Is it the academic advisor? I took an assessment class for another BSN program that I started but could not complete, and I want to see if they will consider it. It was a 3 unit class which included 2 units of lecture plus 1 unit of lecture.

Hi! I am currently in the RN-BSN program at UTA. I need Hist 1302, Statistics and contemporary math. I am going to take those 3 classes at my local community college over the summer. So far I have taken Professional nursing, tech writing, legacy of the family, health promotion. For the most part you have to write a discussion post that is due on Wednesday and then respond to two classmates by Saturday. Most classes are set up so assignments are due on Saturday. So far I do not have any complaints. Although I have heard that nursing research and holistic health assessment are really hard! I am taking both of those in the fall. The coaches respond quickly and have been really helpful. I am hoping to graduate by December. Fingers crossed. Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!

For transfer credits I would email [email protected] be sure to include your student id in the subject line.

I just finished my last regular class in the RN-BSN program at UTA and start Capstone on 5/22. I am SO glad to be finishing this! I started in February of 2016 and took all my Junior year courses that year, saving Senior classes for this year. I did that because my hospital will reimburse me for $5,250 per year in education costs, and breaking the program in half meant I would not have to pay for any of it. The program is not difficult overall, just filled with lots of fluff and busy work. The Research class is awful, it was my only B in the program.

Regarding transfer credits, they accepted all but two classes initially. They wanted me to take a literature class and one other that I can't remember right now. I emailed them and said no thank you, as Texas Tech had accepted all my credits so I would attend there. Wouldn't you know, they suddenly decided that they WOULD take all my credits and I was accepted unconditionally!

If I had it to do over again, I would have gone to Tech. A good friend completed their program and found it very rewarding. I do not feel that way about the UTA program. I feel the program is much more about UTA getting your $9,000 than it is about adding meaningfully to your practice as an RN. It just felt like going through the motions with no real substance. I cannot say that I am a better, more "complete" RN than I was before. I can say however, that I can read a syllabus and give all the bull puckey they want in a perfect APA format. I guess I am just disappointed that I worked hard during the program and don't feel that I truly gained anything for my efforts. I am still very proud of what I have accomplished, though I find myself wishing I felt more rewarded than I do.

If you are interested in advice, I would say follow the rubrics provided TO THE LETTER. If you do, you will pass every class with a B or A. The grading concentrated much more on correct APA formatting and citations than on the substance you are asked to provide. The exception seems to be the weekly discussion boards. Those will require some thought, and if you put in the effort those are easy A's to add to your grade book. Good luck, you will be fine. The program is easy compared to nursing school!

Hello there, So I am currently a RN and working full time in the ER, I am wanting to get my BSN but am nervous to how full the load is. I work 12 hour night shifts and every other weekend. I am just curious on what would be a good load with the courses as well as working full time. I am in the mood where I am ready to get this done and am very motivated. I could start this July. Is it too much to work full time and do 2 courses every 5 weeks? I just don't want to get too over my head and regret doing so. I am looking into the University of Arkansas as well where as its 8 week courses. It has me all nervous on to which program to choose, where as 8 week course more time to do my work but the 5 week courses where I can get it done quicker. Hope this explains and someone has some helpful answers. thanks in advance

Has anyone gotten a financial aid award letter? Friday, May 12th, was two weeks after I submitted my financial aid information. I have to register by Wednesday May 17 for the May 22 start date, can financial aid happen this quickly? And how much does financial aid help out at UTA? Is it mostly loans? Thanks in advance.

I am in professional nursing and tech writing right now. So far they have been pretty easy! God luck to you as well!!

Hello Everyone! currently enrolled at UTA, RN-BSN program. I just completed Tech writing, Prof nursing, and Legacy of the family. I agree with the comments about APA formatting being the focus of the classes. I will be enrolling in the Health promotion and Legal classes next. I'm worried that I have not heard anything about UTA accepting my math course from UOP!

Email RN advising and follow up! Try not to give in if they say no! They told me they wouldn't accept my statistics class because I took it through Psych. So I sent them something from the school I took it at saying it was accepted as stats and they accepted it after giving me a hard no the first time. They seem very flexible in that regard. The girl that responded to me said she had it approved through a supervisor. They won't do the research for you, so send them whatever you can to try to get it accepted. Good luck! I did not want to take anymore math!

I have a full time job where I travel weekly and took 2 courses and they were so easy! This is NOT like our ADN programs and actual nursing school. I think you'll be fine! I was so nervous but just go for it. It's much much easier. The grading is very easy as long as you follow the rubric which is just a guide for what needs to be in the assignment.
