Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

would like to update on capstone: after more than 4 months of waiting i have started the capstone lol

does anyone know how to complete the ISP (individual success plan)?

Here is a screenshot of my first page: Screenshot by Lightshot

What I did..was in the "list of current course objective" was list every possible assignment given.

Second column I tried to match the course objectives (I think which were listed like in the syllabus or something) to the assignment.

Third column I listed the approx. hours it would take me to complete each assignment (with a total of 100 hours)

Fourth column - assignment due date - pretty straightforward

Fifth column - tried to match the listed competencies to the assignments

Sixth column - date assignment completed.

This ISP was very strange and I don't know if anyone else did it differently. My instructor was almost too laid back - made me nervous cuz she also couldn't seem to answer anybody's questions - particularly about this assignment. Hope this helps! :p

It's very basic. Just read the directions and do exactly that. There isn't a wrong answer, you just have to make sure you include each of the objectives at least once.

Specializes in OR.
Capstone is not always the last hurdle.....I had to take 2 "anything classes" and did those after Capstone.....Wish I had taken them prior to Capstone, lol I graduated in 2015, so there may be more changes, but those I mentioned were the ones that have been mentioned on here. Its a for profit-school...so Im guessing they will take your $$$$ lol

what was the total number of classes you had to take? i think mine will be 9 once the capstone is taken (i transfered 2 nursing classes toward a BSN from a dif univ.)

I had to take 10 total. I wasn't allowed to take my Capstone until everything else was done.

I just finished capstone about a month ago and graduated. Good Luck!!

I was told different things about the # of classes...was confusing.....I didnt have to take 2 of the "nursing" classes (ethics and the community 1) but I still had to take 2 more "anything" classes...and they were useless..1 was a very very basic research class, lol When it comes down to it..it is a $$$$$ grab. I took those 2 anything classes after Capstone. Some say u cant double up right away.....but I know those that have. Some were able to switch profs easily, while others had issues....it is what it is

Congrats Howlee....Its a nice feeling to have it done with

Starting Community Health. Can anyone recommend an instructor they have had a good experience with? Send me a PM. Also, for the 3 benchmarks at the end, did they require you to do a presentation out in the community? We were told previously by counselors that everything but the capstone was all online. Any insight would be helpful

I did not have to do anything in the community other than during the Capstone class. I also sent you a private message.

Sorry I think I did have a few small presentations, I had to go back and look at my projects to remember. There were a few cases, in various class, when I had to present something for example: a pamphlet or poster and I just presented it to some co-workers so it was not a great big deal!

Thank you for your private message! I tried writing you one back but it wouldn't let me. If you have any other recommendations, they would be greatly appreciated. I've already finished PD and HP. We start tomorrow with Comm and were able to take your advice and are sure glad we did!
