Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

thank you!

In the NRS 490 Capstone class, I see there are three phone calls required between instructor and mentor. What is the idea behind this? To check up on the student to see if they're actually doing the work? Also, does the instructor call the site also besides the mentor? Anyone have any experience with this new course?

I'm just starting my Capstone this week and am trying to figure out how these practice immersion hours work. Has anyone just counted their time spent working on assignments? The instructions are so vague, I'm not sure what they expect me to do for 100 hours (my site also does not have its affiliation in place, so I don't have a site to actually go to).

It's so vague!! It's frustrating! You can't count the time with your mentor. Fifty hours you can gain from the assignments, but you have to figure out another 50 from your facility. I did shadowing of different leadership positions. I actually still don't know if this approved. My professor isn't helpful at all. She just refers us to the syllabus.

I'm finishing my second week of the Capstone and haven't heard anything about the three phone calls. Both my counselor and instructor have made it sound like I can get almost all of my 100 hours through doing research at home. The instructions seem to just be vague and inconsistent!

Im just starting health promotion. any teachers recommendations? ones to avoid?

Greetings everyone,

I am so happy to return to this forum. So much has happened in the last 2 yrs. I am so ready to finally commence the return to complete my BSN.

I will have to write a letter of reinstatement along with a plan of action and pray that I get accepted.

I am hoping to become accepted with you all. I believe this forum helped me so much during my first half of the program. I am looking forward to exchanging advice, encouragement, and celebration upon completion.

What have I missed in the last two years??

whats different? I believe the religion class has been combined with Ethics.....Stats seems to have changed, but the biggest difference is CAPSTONE.....its now a 10 week class and totally different than the previous 5 week capstone.... Welcome back

Hi Flames,

Thanks for responding.

I did hear that the CAPSTONE is now 10 weeks. I can't recall if I took ethics right off the top of my head. What I do recall is taking Stats and being a bit scared from what a lot were saying. That was one of my easiest classes to take. I truly enjoyed it.

Now I need to start the process of gathering all my info, money, and plan of action to hopefully be readmitted.

So I am seeing the Capstone is the top subject of the evening.

I believe this is still the last hurdle before it's all said and done.

Thanks for the heads up.

Good luck to you all. May it be swift and as painless as possible.

Capstone is not always the last hurdle.....I had to take 2 "anything classes" and did those after Capstone.....Wish I had taken them prior to Capstone, lol I graduated in 2015, so there may be more changes, but those I mentioned were the ones that have been mentioned on here. Its a for profit-school...so Im guessing they will take your $$$$ lol

On my last week of the capstone and wondering about one of the last assignments - the Practice Hours Documentation

Practice Hours Portfolio Required Elements

The Practice Hours Portfolio will include all of the following elements:

Individual Success Plan signed off by course mentor.

Comprehensive clinical log of hours applied to program learning outcomes.

Student evaluations (final).

Course mentor evaluations (final).

Faculty approvals of the Individual Success Plan and documented practice immersion hours. (Student is responsible for obtaining approvals.)

Course mentor's approval of the Individual Success Plan and documented practice immersion hours. (Student is responsible for obtaining approvals.)

Just confused about the general assignment...this is all uploaded at once? And faculty means...my instructor? Do I need her to "obtain approval" beforehand or what does that even mean? =\
