Riverside Community College Spring 2011

Published

Applications were due today for Spring 2011 at RCC. Just wanted to say good luck to all the people that applied with me, and maybe we can keep up with each other as we wait for letters to be sent out!

Thanks, and again good luck. :D

To the girls that already complete Nursing 1 --

Will "intake" on Friday actually take the full 4 hours that is scheduled?

Do you have a choice of times for classes/clinicals? For instance, can you choose afternoon or evenings rather than 7am classes?

Also, any ideas on the type of things we will need to do/get completed during December and January before we actually start classes?

Thanks so much!

Did they ever tell you how many alternates they had chosen for your class?

When I was in the nursing office, there was a girl that was an alternate. They didn't tell her which number she was but they did say that she was 'pretty far down the list' which i interpreted as there wasn't much hope for her this semester... maybe go in to the office and ask if they could give you "any idea" of where you are on the list -- 'top' or the 'bottom' -- so at least you could have a better idea. Did you complete all your general ed and prereq's? I heard them say that its important for those to be done also... I'm sorry but I hope this info helps a little. Hang in there!

Thanks hn0000 for the encouragement. I know several people have to apply more than once. I applied so I could get the TEAS invite. I didn't expect to get a spot in the program this time around. I guess the alternate slot is better than a rejection, but at the same time, it leaves my hubby and kids (and me) feeling anxious. We were going to have to deal w/ the stress of this program at some point, so we'll try to make the most of this "dress rehearsal." I talked to a great guy today on the way to my psych 9 final. We took micro and A&P together. He's a great student and a veteran. He had the highest TEAS score, but still didn't get in b/c he has a couple GE's in progress. He's the best of the best, so if I end up waiting a semester, I know I'll be in good company. I'm really rooting for the Robinson kid. I'd love for her to get to spend more time at home with her little one, but I know she'd love a spot in this class!

I got a call today at around 3:30 telling me that someone declined their spot in the program, and that I was next in line :D

It sounds like they are calling alternates the minute someone declines so they can get all their ducks in a row... I'm thinking (and hoping for Aim and others) they may make some more calls tomorrow.

Aim, in your email did it say you were high on the list? The intro to my letter said something along the lines of we cannot tell you what number you are, just that it is near the top. Still hoping that a few others go to different programs so you can get in this round. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

lol what if it was that one guy on this forum that said he's declining his offer that got you in, might aswell be right? =) lol

Congrats! hopefully by friday there arent anymore miscalculated points so they can bring more alternates in

hn0000,

yes the intake day does take all four hours.

And No you do not get to pick your clinical/class times. All the classes in Nursing 1 start early in the am and you will be out by 4pm. Clinical is on Tues and Wed mornings at 7am until 12pm. You do get to pick your clinical instructors and clinical location (corona regional, RCH, and Parkview) which is very important. One class that you do get to pick is your thursday lab. They offer a thurs morning lab 730am-1030am or the afternoon lab on thurs which is 1pm-4pm.

Make sure you get all of your immunizations, cpr card, and physical done ASAP. they will give u all the info tomorrow morning in regards to everything that needs to be completed before you register. You cant register until everything is completed and you dont want to register late because you wont be able to pick ur thurs lab time or your clinical location and instructor.

And i would get your books asap too and start reading. There is alot of reading and it is really easy to get behind quickly.

hope this helps.

if u have anymore questions go ahead and ask

Just got my acceptance e-mail! LRobinson5, so glad you got in! Happy to see they're finding room for us alternates. MeeksRN, thanks for the info. I'd love clinicals at Corona regional, but I'm not counting on it. I'm sure my immunization stuff will take forever. I bet most of these youngin's on here have up-to-date immunization records, just like my kids! Oh well, just happy to have a slot. Let the organized chaos begin!!!!! See you all in the mornin'!

YEAH! I'm so glad you got in as well Aim! Guess I was right that they would be calling some more people today. I'll see you tomorrow morning, I have short hair and glasses :coollook:

Also, I got an email telling me I'm at the Riverside Campus. What is everyone else assigned to?

I am hoping that I get RCH as my hospital, not only because it is closest to where I live, I have always gone to this hospital and I love the staff. I delivered there and everything :p

I think ours took the whole 4 hours. We did not have a choice of time for clinicals, they were all the same time. You can choose your teacher and hospital.

I would start on all your immunizations if you are in the program for sure. If you are an alternate I would probably start gathering all your immunization info but I wouldnt pay to have anything done.

I dont know much about any of these hospitals where clinicals are located. Has anyone heard anything about the different hospitals or instructors? Does one rank higher or teach better than the others?

Congrats to everyone that got in. Ive just finished my first semester of the LVN program. Enjoy what free time you have left in your life lols.

I ordered all of the required books for Nursing 1 and Nursing 15. $375.96 with shipping. Aack! :-)
