Riverside Community College Spring 2011

Published

Applications were due today for Spring 2011 at RCC. Just wanted to say good luck to all the people that applied with me, and maybe we can keep up with each other as we wait for letters to be sent out!

Thanks, and again good luck. :D

You can get the med-surg book in either 1 edition or 2. The 2 edition is just 2 smaller books instead of 1 giant one. You still need editions 1 AND 2 if you choose the 2 edition option.

Oh, okay. So, you just pick one or the other, not both? Which one did you order? Thanks so much for your quick reply!

I got it in 2 editions just because I don't want to carry around the giant book. Even in 2 editions each one is pretty big.

I bought both versions, and I'm going to go w/ the the 2 editions, rather than the one big one. If someone wants to buy the "one volume version" from me, I'll sell it for $95. I'll be losing about $10 this way, but I'm not going to need it. It's brand new and the CD wasn't opened either. I'm not sure if this is allowed on allnurses, so send me a message if you are interested. Thanks! I can bring it to orientation on the 12th.

That sounds like a great deal to anyone searching for the book!

Also if i can ask the people who already have the Scrubs:

Did you order the exact size depicted from the size chart?

Does it fit too small too big?

Have you washed it and does it shrink?

~thank you

I ordered my scrubs according to the sizing chart and they fit well. They don't really shrink when washed. Maybe a tiny tiny bit. I'd stick with the sizing chart.

I'm trying to determine what kind of bag is needed - backpack, rolling tote, GIANT suitcase? :) For those that have already been in the program, are we normally carrying our books back and forth from school or into the hospitals? Is there a recommendation on what kind of bag works best?

Also, in regards to the discussion on the uniform: go with the sizing chart. It showed that I wore an XS (which I have never worn an XS ever so was thinking that chart was wrong) but I called and spoke to Customer Service -- and glad I did -- because even an XS was slightly big once I got it. The sizes are very funky and leave plenty of room in the hips and waist area so whatever you do, don't order big!

Did you guys get your Big Brother/Sister assignments at Intake day? If you did... email or call them, it was SOO helpful for me as a new Nursing 1 student. They are able to help you with your choices of instructors as well as things to focus on for exams.

I emailed my "Big Sister" right after InTake Day but haven't had a response at all!

It would be great to have someone (similar in age and life circumstances) to be able to talk with that is experienced in the program already. Do you know if they can match me up with a new "Big Sister" once school actually gets started???...

As far as book storage, Im just going to use my regular backpack and I got a plastic storage box to keep in my car. I figure that my books will only be a 5 minute walk to my car away.

As for the big bro/sis thing I'm not sure. My big sis has been a huge help! Good luck with that!

Ive been searching for like all white shoes from place to place (ones that are all white and athletic) and this is the closest and best priced i can find. I always run into the logo being black, grey, or having a grey trim, but if anyone is still looking I'd suggest these.

If you buy them at Sears they are only $39.99

I hope they aren't extremely strict b/c if you look at the top view, the unpainted parts of the fabric itself are kinda grey looking, but that's unintentional. If anyone can confirm with what white shoes they bought and if it has an ounce of grey or something else that is still considered acceptable? (i already emailed purdy once before about the shoes topic, so i feel like id be bugging him if i bring up the shoes again, but I'd think it would be ridiculous if these shoes were not acceptable)

I found a pair of all white shoes at Payless. I got lucky and snagged a pair that was on sale for $20.00. They also have an athletic shoe cleaner to keep them extra white, I think it was $4.00.

As for backpacks I was also lucky. I got a JanSport Driver 8 rolling backpack on clearance for half off. It is huge as far as rolling backpacks go, and all JanSport packs have a lifetime warranty. I don't know if they are still available but I got it at Officemax.com for $45.

I went the other way with my shoes and went laceless. Cherokee Men's "Michael" Step In Shoe, 7:Amazon:Shoes
