Riverside Community College Spring 2011

Published

Applications were due today for Spring 2011 at RCC. Just wanted to say good luck to all the people that applied with me, and maybe we can keep up with each other as we wait for letters to be sent out!

Thanks, and again good luck. :D

Sorry for butting in on your post... but I have a question, and I think you guys would all be best to answer it! :D

First, congrats to everyone for getting into the program! Now to my question. =) I just sent in my application for the Fall 2011 semester, and it said I would receive a receipt within a week. Its been a little over a week, and I've gotten nothing back, so I emailed them, but haven't heard back. Are they hard to get in contact with through email? Would I be better off calling? The only number I have goes straight to a messaging system, is there another one I should have?

Thank in advance, and good luck!!

Hey everyone congratulations on getting in to the program! I can't wait to get there. I have a question for

all of you I have been going to RCC part time since 2008 my registration date is Jan 24. I have 39 units my problem is I only

have Anatomy and Physiology 2A and 2B and Microbiology left to complete but I can never get into AMY 2A how did you guys do

it? I am getting frustrated because I can't go on until I get into AMY2A.:crying2: There is already a wait list and I still can't

register for 5 days. I would really appreciate any advice.

Honestly when I took A&P I it was in Winter 2009 and I have been a student sine Fall 2006. At that time you had to be online at midnight and still had to fight for a spot. It is even worse for students now, because of all the classes that they have had to cut.

If you are desperate, there are some extracurricular activities that give you priority registration if you are a regular member. I believe student academic senate is one of them, and there are sports and other electives as well. There are also ways to get priority registration if you have special needs (which you need a doctor to prove your need). I know this may not apply to you, but certain learning disabilities (ADD being a very common one among people) that need accommodations will also let you have priority registration.

Your only other option is try to go to a different college hoping it will be easier to get in to, or wait until you are at the top of the general registration list.

Good luck!

I agree with lrobinson's advice and i will give you guys an example from my experience

I started RCC Fall 2008 (took 2 classes)--> Winter (took 2 classes)--> Spring (took like 4 classes i think)--> Fall 2009, got in Amy2a by means of waitlist (+2 other classes)--> Winter (1 class)--> In Spring 2010 took Micro and AP 2B (highly do not recommend during same semester if you are trying for RCC's competitive seats).

if you do not get into the class, or even on the waitlist, register for other classes you still need for your GE's or transfers in the mean time, and the registration dates go by how many units completed (current class units attending do not count) so the more classes you have, the earlier your reg

cut off this year was 80 points, so lets say you get:

80-89% on the TEAS (30pts)

3.5-3.99 GEs (20pts)

A/A/A for 2a,2b,micro (25pts)

Foreign language (5 pts)

need to work (5 pts)

that gives you a good shot with 85pts, practically in! (well, for this semester) and getting A/A/B in sciences gives you 80pts total which is competitive

I suggest if you do get into those classes, study study study, also ask if there are other colleges you can take the AP/micro classes that allow the credits transferred

PS: Our Midnight registration was a joke, servers crash, you'd have to be up until 2am and by the time webadviser lets you in, only the lucky ones got the seats and waitlist

Thank you for the phone number!

Thanks so much for the advice unfortunately I don't qualify for any of the programs that give priority registration. I have completed all of my general ed classes and some of my transfer classes as well. Did any one take first aid and CPR? I know I will need the certificate at some point but not sure if this class is a waste of time. I am not able to attend full time yet as I am waiting for my youngest child to start school full time. I am on the older side and feel like I am running out of time here! So far I have a 4.0 GPA but have to wait and see on my AMY and Micro GPA. Also I took french in high school but that was like 20yrs ago do you think that would count for a language?

Do any of the following apply to you? Yes No

• Speak a language other than English?

• Successfully completed a one semester course of a language other than English in a college?

• Successfully completed a one year course of a language other than English in high school?

• Successfully completed a semester course of American Sign Language in a college?

If you successfully completed your one year course of a foreign language (other than English) in

High School, you must submit your official High School transcript to the Admissions & Records

office by the end of the current application deadline

But im sure there were other people on the forum who were in your position on foreign language that can give their advice

I wouldn't really recommend taking CPR at RCC, because it is like 3 months of class with hours upon hours of attendance, then the units cost + required materials cost comes out to more than $100 easily. If you go to an outside class, it costs around $60 for 2-4 hour session and you get your card same day.

I would not worry about CPR until you are accepted into the program because they will tell you when you should start preparing (because CPR cert has to last the 2 years, so getting it earlier would be a waste).

But in your specific case, you need CPR for more units to speed up your registration date, and you dont have anymore GE's, Cal/UC Transfer courses needed, then it might come out to a fair trade for the registration boost (since all you have to do is renew your license next time you need it), but i would still recommend taking a class you are interested in for the extra units and CPR worries later down the road.

Totally right! You don't want to take this until you are accepted because your card expires in two years. Once you need to take CPR for the program I highly recommend First Class CPR:

http://www.firstclasscpr.com/

The site is in Bloomington, and it is a very small class size that has very convenient days. Super easy and relaxed atmosphere, I'm going to go back when I have to renew.

Thanks guys, that's what I was thinking about the CPR class but I was hoping the units would help me get a better date. Does anyone know what other schools AMY classes are accepted at RCC? I know it says you have to take both at one school but I am not sure which ones are eligible. As of today every AMY-2A class at all 3 campuses are full and even the wait lists are closed. I dont register until Monday.I understand there are budget cuts but I can't understand why when they have a class that is so in demand they only offer a couple at each campus! Oh well I am going to take 2 classes anyway just to keep my catalog rights and get some more units in any one have any suggestions of some good classes? especially online? Thanks for all of the advice!

im not the best person to give advice because i took all my classes at RCC when the majority of the people in Spr 11 arent from RCC and took their pre reqs somewhere else, so there are other colleges they accept AMY, as long as its all done in the same college

I think Valley college, Mount SAC, and UCR AMY's are accepted from what ive heard, but im sure there are more.

I dont understand the situation of budget cuts either, i remember teachers were complaining how they were getting laid off b/c there wasn't enough money, then they make a new corral in norco campus, but i have no clue about any of it. For Anatomy and Micro, maybe a shortage of teachers just like how there is a shortage of Nursing teachers (Which is why there is this whole competition thing 60 out of 600 or so applicants can get in). But if we had the teachers, then there would be a shortage of space (us nursing 1 will know that soon enough), so the new buildings are a glimmer of hope.

Just think about what you want to learn about in life rather than ill take this class b/c its easy (because all classes are easy, and the A wont do much if its not a GE you will put down on the RN application, what would you like to learn about?).

Ive never taken an online class, but probably anthro or sociology online would be easy and convenient. My friend is done with all of his classes actually, anatomy and micro included, but he didn't get into the program. What he did is start on his minor (business) for nursing and is taking his minor classes while he waits.

These classes would fill up when I took them and we were not in the budget situation we are now. When I took them money was not an issue it was SPACE. They had plenty of faculty to teach, but not enough time in a day to schedule enough lab sections to accommodate everyone.

Now we are seeing much more space (thank you Measure C), but we are seeing less classes because there isn't any money (thank you California). It probably isn't going to get any better for a while... I would suggest looking in to a college that has less people. A few in the area are San Bernardino Valley College, Mount San Jacinto CC, Chaffey College in Ontario, and Crafton Hills in Yucaipa. There are more but you get the idea. Look in to taking classes there (some of them even have RN programs you might be interested in).

Just so long as it is a two-part series Anatomy/Physiology with a lab it will be fine. An example of an unacceptable course would be like RCC's AMY-10. Just so long as it is taken at the same college you won't have problems.
