Riverside Community College Spring 2011

U.S.A. California

Applications were due today for Spring 2011 at RCC. Just wanted to say good luck to all the people that applied with me, and maybe we can keep up with each other as we wait for letters to be sent out!

Thanks, and again good luck. :D

Thank you sooo much for the info! It's exactly what i've been needing to know :). One other thing I have been reading and not really understanding is the 'points'. I have heard some of these programs are based on a point system which I am not familiar with. Any input on that??

I believe it varies from campus to campus, but RCC has their point-breakdown on the website: (on the last page)

http://www.rcc.edu/academicPrograms/nursing/files/SteveRN440b2-10RNInfoSheet.pdf

To give you an estimate of how many points you need, I had 75 points and was an alternate. I was ultimately accepted before orientation. I think if you have an 80+ you are in a good position, obviously the higher the number the better your chances.

To find out the if there is a point system you will have to go to each individual college nursing program's website. If you need anything else just let me know :) and good luck!

Thank you Leslie this helps!

Thanks Amanda, I will look into ISP. Did any of you take AMY-10. I am thinking maybe I could take this to get into Microbiology and also get a head start for AMY2A. What do you guys think? Or would this class be a waste of time?

i took amy-10 in spring 2009 and i thought it was pretty useful. it's a really general overview of anatomy, but it helped me in amy-2a and helped me to get into micro. i got A's in both anatomy classes, so i think it's definitely beneficial.

hi guys. congrats to everyone who got into spring 2011 at rcc; hope you're enjoying it! just wondering how you guys were calculating your points - did they give them to you at some point and i missed it? or are you just going off of your grades and personal calculations? my thing is, i have a bachelors degree so when it comes to figuring out my gpa, i've taken two anthropology courses for instance and i don't know which class they're using to calculate my gpa and therefore what grade. so my total application points could be anywhere from 75 to 85. also i've found conflicting points for the TEAS test. the powerpoint on their website says i would receive 25 points, while the ADN info sheet in pdf that has a date of march 2011 on it says i would receive 30 points... ( i just took it friday and got an 80%. :0/) so i was just curious as to how you all figured out your points. thanks in advance! and good luck to you all!

Hello there! RCC will always take the class with the highest grade. If you have taken two courses in anthropology, one with an "A" the other "C", the higher one will be taken. This is what the enrollment technician said at one of the information sessions before I applied to the program.

You are correct that we do self calculations. I estimated my points at 75 and I was an alternate. Make sure you don't hesitate to ask questions (especially with your GPA). I know one person on the forum had the points added up incorrectly, and only after talking to the school did they realize the error and offer acceptance to the program.

I hope that helped clear things up, and any other questions you have I would love to help if I can.

My name is Leslie, btw :D

thanks leslie! yeah i remember one of the advisors telling me that as well when it came to chemistry because i had taken a chem prep course and then regular chem, that they would take the higher grade. but then i was thinking well... does any anthropology course count? do both of mine meet their requirement so they'll pick the highest, or does only one of them meet therefore that's obviously the grade the grade that they take ya know? *sigh* it's just so nerve-wracking waiting...! trying to figure out whether or not i should be nervous in the meantime but seeing what chance i have!

how are you liking the program??

Man, I hadn't thought about that... I suppose if the one with a better grade is not an acceptable course then it wouldn't count. It says that either sociology-1 or anthropology-2 is acceptable. ANT-2 is cultural anthropology, so I guess if it deals with the cultural aspect of anthropology as opposed to the individual aspect it should be fine. I do not know everything there is to know about course equivalencies though, I wish there was a reliable counselor outside the school of nursing, because I remember feeling like I was bothering any person I had a question for...

I like the program, the nursing-1 instructors are really great! I can't believe our semester is almost over. It's kinda depressing that we only get to be with each instructor for one semester. Make sure you give me updates, if you get in I'll have to find you to say congrats :)

i know what you mean - it's so hard to get a hold of anybody in the department and then when you finally do i always feel like i'm interrupting! ah well...

i'm glad to hear your'e enjoying it; i have a friend who started last fall who's loving it as well. so i just got an email stating that they'll be letting people know by late july/early august - that's forever away and seems all too close to the beginning of the semester! how far in advance did you get your acceptance?? anyway you'll definitely be hearing from me if i get in because i'll be shouting it from the rooftops!

thanks again for your help!

Congrats on finishing your first semester everyone!

I was wondering if you could give me any info on how many of the alternates ended up making it into the program? Also, when you are told you are an alternate, are you given a number also? Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Ariel: We were called in December when the semester started on Valentines Day (Feb. 14, I think?) So we had over a month to get everything done.

Hawaii: I was an alternate, and there was quite a large number of people that were alternates, but I think we were called and accepted BEFORE the first day of class. Some people got the call a few weeks before class, but I don't think anyone was accepted on the first day. They do NOT give a number for alternate status. They do give you an estimate. In my alternate status email it said I was high on the list, and another person I knew had an email that said they were low on the list, but not to lose hope.

I was accepted to the program a few days before we had our intake day, which is the first meeting where we pick up all the documents we need signed and the info about our immunizations and all that.

I hope you both make it in for next semester!

Question for anyone knows

IF I apply to enter fall 2012 but I will be taking sociology (to replace my 'C' in anthropology) in the winter, and class ends like mid-feburary...does that still count as "in progress"?

Anyone know?

This school is a back-up just in case the budget tanks and I am not accepted to any of the CSU programs....

More than likely they will not count the better grade, because it is "In progress".

However, since you've passed Anthropology there shouldn't be anything holding you back. People that don't have all of their prerequisites completed have a very slim chance of getting in. Since they don't have a class completed they would only make it in if they were one of the 5% that are randomly selected from the application pool.

So to sum it all up shortly, they will use the 'C' from your anthropology class to calculate your GPA. Hope this helped!
