The Rittenhouse trial has begun in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The prosecution is presenting first, but apparently the defense argument will be self-defense. So a 17 year old travels out of state with his rifle to a demonstration because he fears for his life?

No, not ruling yet. If there was, you would have heard of it.
I'm from the Great Lakes region of the country originally. Yes, I felt early on that the jury would be lenient and nothing in the trial changed that opinion. I did think that the prosecution delivered a stronger closing argument than did the defense. But, I think that the jury will measure the facts in the case against their feelings about open carry and self defense. I imagine my family or long term friends or acquaintances on that jury and I imagine a sympathetic and lenient perspective when I do.

I can appreciate that perspective based on your experience. However, I don't think he went there to start trouble. And, I don't know what he should have been expected to do.

I don't recall saying that he went there to start trouble. I doubt that the psychology behind Rittenhouse's decision making was that simple. He's young and he made some really bad choices for really bad reasons last August. Clearly, Rittenhouse was confused as to why he was in Kenosha that evening and what he should or should not have done or expected others to do while he was openly carrying a dangerous weapon. Was he guarding a business? Was he guarding several buildings on different locations? Was he the medic for the armed group? Was he the medic for the larger community or neighborhood?
IMV the question isn't whether or not he was reckless and that recklessness resulted in death and harm. I see the question as whether or not he will be held accountable for that reckless behavior.

No, it doesn't, but the law doesn't give you a free pass to intentionally agitate people by a show of aggression so then you can shoot them and claim self-defense.
Justice was served today. If it wasn’t already apparent ( from the video footage) that this was self defense the prosecutor's own witness announced it was when he testified.

Nor does getting prematurely upset about a police shooting give anyone the right to riot cause violence and destroy property of people not even involved with the police shooting.
I was a little worried that the jury was going to be intimidated by the obvious intimidation of the people "protesting" outside of the jury room and despicable hags like Joyless Ried on MSMBC and all the other left wing garbage news.
