Rio Hondo College ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hey everyone! I thought I'd open this forum for those of us applying to Rio Hondo. Applications are right around the corner and it would be great to use this as a means of communication. Feel free to post, ask questions, or respond. I hope to hear from you!

Yeah I've looked into CC CNA near me and they are 2 semesters. so that's a whole another year lol. There are private programs like red cross but it's like 5 k. I going to spend some time and see if I can find an adult school that offers it. My problem is that calworks/gain wont recognize anything but nursing since that was my original goal. So getting them to fund it will be hard (if not impossible), and they'll want me to do an activity to stay on calworks (20 hrs a week), and any schooling but nursing wont count ?

I am a single mom of 3 boys but I'm fortunate enough to have some support from my family, my kids do receive free daycare/afterschool care. It's been a long journey but I'm not giving up. I am frustrated that having a bachelors seems to almost be a requirement for an associate's degree. I dont have 4 years to get one and be competitive, that's for sure.

Regardless, a wakeup call that's made me rethink my approach.

Hi NillaWafers....When you have time to attend CNA or LVN school, check out ROP (Regional Occupational Program). It is state funded by CA & it is free.

I called the nursing dept this morning. If you didn't get your acceptance by friday. You're denied. Congrats to everyone that got accepted ?

Disappointing but not surprising. Good luck to everyone on any other schools you applied to.

for those that were looking into getting their CNA I got a grant from America’s job center to go to get my cna through tri cities rop in Whittier if you go the tri cities website they have a link to America’s job center. You call them and just take an assessment and apply for the grant they help you through all the steps! That’s what I did then got a job at a home healthcare agency for work experience having that really made me a competitive applicant not to mention just being used to getting up close and personal with patients!

Does anyone know how the fundamentals classes are given in terms of dates? Would all spring semester be dedicated toward courses ADN151 and ADN151L and then we would start the real program in the following Fall 2020? I know Fall cohort applicants take these fundamentals classes in the summer as an 8week session....but what about Spring cohort applicants?

Yes we will take the fundamental classes in the spring semester. The official program will begin in the Fall.

Man, this sucks. I had overlooked this. Imagine having to "truly" start this ADN program til mid-August from now! I'm gonna show up to orientation (anyway other schools require this fire safety training as well),,,,but if hypothetically Rio Hondo accepts me from the alternate list, and another school accepts me for this same spring, then I'm going for the other school.

Yeah it’s a long time. The process of it all kinda sucks. Have you called to see what alternate # you are ?

No, I tried calling this morning and it went straight to the answering machine. I just figure the letters in the mail will tell us the #. I should hope so! I have no letter in the mail scheduled for today (based on the usps app)....dang, they're really behind, huh...

I tried calling this morning also and same thing. I hope it does. I have no mail scheduled for today either. I know they are understaffed so that’s probably why the process is going like this.

I received my letter in the mail today. It didn’t state what number I am on the alternate list. I guess we will find out Friday.
