  1. Hi leann24, I am in the LVN to ADN Program which starts on March 30, 2020. During our 1st orientation there was no mention of having health insurance. But, it does not hurt if something was to occur in the future. You will need a physical, drug screening, background check, immunizations and titers, etc. This is through a company called CastleBranch that Rio Hondo is contracted with. Cost $95 dollars. Please contact Ms. Roxanna Gomez/Rio Hondo Dept. of Nursing at phone number (562) 908-3421. Ask where you can get low cost to free immunizations. Rio Hondo students can get free vision & hearing tests at Student Health on campus located in the Student Services building on the 2nd floor. They offer the 2 step TB test. I believe it costs $10 dollars. Here is the phone number for Rio Hondo College Student Health (562) 908-3438. Congrats & welcome!
  2. Hi Jesabvall2019, Glad everything turned out fine. I plan on wearing my uniform all day too when I start in March. White long sleeves are nice to wear since it is still cold. Also, we can wear a white lab coat too on top of our nursing uniforms. I am looking into purchasing white leather non-slip Skecher, Nursemate, etc. type of nursing shoes.
  3. Hi Jesabvall2019...How was your 1st day? Did you have to wear your nursing uniform, or was it OK to wear regular clothing?
  4. Is this for the regular 2 year RN Program? Best to be on the safe side. You can always bring your regular clothing and place them inside your car if you need to change. I am enrolled in the 1 year RN (LVN to ADN). We start class on March 30th.

  6. Congrats everyone who is cleared to go! The journey to start nursing school is almost ready to begin! I just got my nursing uniforms today at last. I am still waiting for my email to say I am cleared to register for my CRN#. I am enrolled in the LVN to ADN Program. Has anyone else purchased any books, nursing equipment, etc?
  7. Hi Chels As far as I know the drug test has to be done by CastleBranch. They provide you with a code which is similar to an authorization to obtain this service. Then, the drug test results are posted on their site under your name. Unfortunately, you have to go through them. But, if you have a hard time getting through, contact Ms. Roxanna Gomez/Rio Hondo College Dept. of Nursing to see how she can help you. Her office phone number is (562) 908-3421.
  8. Hi Chels, The LVN to ADN Program begins on March 28th. Whichever program we are in, we definitely need our CRN # to get registered as you mentioned. Best of luck & congrats. Definitely stay in touch.
  9. Hi Everyone, I went to Rio Hondo College today and stopped by the Dept. of Nursing. I spoke with Ms. Roxanna Gomez. She stated we should be receiving an email by next week confirming our CRN # number for our "LVN to ADN Transition Course." As far as uniforms go, Rio Hondo's Dept. of Nursing is not in charge of that. I called Vista Uniform today, and the lady stated our nursing uniforms are being shipped out. Some people have already received them. If you have not received your nursing uniform, then call Vista Uniforms at office phone number (661) 254-1828. Has anyone purchased their nursing shoes yet? They need to be white and made of leather material. It is recommended nursing shoes are slip resistant. Skechers? Nurse Mates?
  10. I have not received the 2 uniforms I have paid for yet. So far, no word yet about the LVN to ADN Program. I am going to Rio Hondo College tomorrow on Jan. 9th to speak with one of my academic counselors. After that, I will swing by the Department of Nursing and ask for an update. I will let you know what I find out. As far as I know at this time, the LVN to ADN (LVN Transition to ADN/Nursing Fundamentals class) begins on March 28, 2020.
  11. Does anyone from the LVN to ADN Program know which Nursing Fundamental book will we be using? Is it: 1. Lebon, Lippincott, Williams, Wilkins, Lynn, & Taylor (Fund Nursing w/SG & CoursePoint)...SG = Study Guide Edition: 9th ISBN: 9781975140892 Author Lippincott-Williams & Wilkins Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Price $328.28 OR 2. Lebon, Lippincott, Williams, Wilkins, Lynn, & Taylor (Fund of Nursing w/CoursePoint Access) Edition: 9th ISBN: 9781975141431 Author Taylor Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Price $300.49 ***These prices are from the Rio Hondo College bookstore.
  12. I have not purchased my books yet. I have a friend of mine who is in the 2nd year of the LVN to ADN Program. She said Rio Hondo College charges too much for nursing books. She ordered her books from Amazon. Way cheaper and free shipping.

Please accept my sincere condolences and respect for the loss of your beloved husband. May he RIP as he will always be in your heart forever. As for being too old???? Never! I am 60 years old, a wife, grandmother, Army veteran, and breast cancer survivor. I also have TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) with partial hearing loss in which I wear bilateral hearing aids 24/7. I have been an LVN since 1986. Go for it! Never stop reaching for the stars and your dreams. Do not listen to the naysayers!!! I attended college 5 years part-time balancing my family and health to complete my nursing prerequisite courses. My GPA is 3.75, I have been accepted to my college honor society, and I have won 2 scholarships. To include a high academic achievement award from the college president. We "older" students know what we want. In addition, we offer maturity, life experience, are focused and dedicated towards our goals. I start RN school this spring 2020. Life is a journey, and I am enjoying the ride! I hope you enjoy your new adventure too. Believe it because you can achieve!!!!
  14. To Everyone, I accessed the Rio Hondo College website. Even though we have not been "officially accepted yt since our CastleBranch has to be reviewed and cleared, here is the LVN to RN course information: ADN 075 - LVN Trans/ADN Prog 2.5 Credits CRN #36061 Nursing Professor-Monique Velasco ***On Mondays only! From 07:30 am - 12:00 pm, Science Room #202 From 01:00 pm - 04:25 pm, Science Room # 204 I don't know if we have to attend both sessions all day. Or, if the class is split into 1/2. Where maybe 8 people attend 07:30 am - 12:00 pm. And, the other 8 people attend 01:00 pm - 04:25 pm. We will find out soon. Has anybody received their nursing uniforms yet? Thanks ?
