Hey everyone! I thought I'd open this forum for those of us applying to Rio Hondo. Applications are right around the corner and it would be great to use this as a means of communication. Feel free to post, ask questions, or respond. I hope to hear from you!

Hey yall! I just received a late acceptance? But I do have a question..

Does this program require you to have health insurance? I'm in the process of shopping health insurance as I just left work.. I have my mandatory mtg tomorrow so i'm feeling a bit anxious /: Did they req. proof from you or did you just have to complete the physical/ health screening?

What were your stats? Im applying for summer/fall

Hey everyone!

Congrats to everybody that made it in as this is a great nursing program! I'm currently in my 3rd semester and I have books that I wont be needing anymore. I'm selling my Fundamentals and Med-surge book which are both in great condition, basically brand new! You'll be needing the med-surge book throughout the whole program. Message me if you're interested! Also, Let me know if you have any questions regarding the program. I'll be glad to help ?

Hi leann24,

I am in the LVN to ADN Program which starts on March 30, 2020. During our 1st orientation there was no mention of having health insurance. But, it does not hurt if something was to occur in the future. You will need a physical, drug screening, background check, immunizations and titers, etc. This is through a company called CastleBranch that Rio Hondo is contracted with. Cost $95 dollars. Please contact Ms. Roxanna Gomez/Rio Hondo Dept. of Nursing at phone number (562) 908-3421. Ask where you can get low cost to free immunizations. Rio Hondo students can get free vision & hearing tests at Student Health on campus located in the Student Services building on the 2nd floor. They offer the 2 step TB test. I believe it costs $10 dollars. Here is the phone number for Rio Hondo College Student Health (562) 908-3438. Congrats & welcome!

They use a points system, that they dont really publicize the rubric for. Very similar to other schools like PCC ect. That means people with a bachelors, experience, volunteer experience, bilingual ect get more points than someone without. They get pushed to the top, and they go from the top down.

Being at or slightly above the 2.5 GPA minimum is all great and good but you won't get into any school with a point system that way. Schools like ELAC will do a waiting list (2 years) and GCC will do a lottery with a chancellors cut. So you have a chance at schools like that with that kind of GPA (just making minimums) but not a school with a point system.

Hi sorry but dont think this is true. You can have a 2.5 from a bachleors, 4.0 in science GPA from a conm college, volunteer and hospital work experiemce and cna certificates and others and still get high points. These were about my stats and I applied to several point system schools with high points. Just want to encourage anyone else who is in that situation.

Quick question for anyone waiting on another school. Are you guys purchasing Castle Branch now if the school is suppose to reply in the next two weeks?

For the May 8th Deadline. I remember them saying to have it submitted does this mean the results for the drug screening and background check must be returned/completed by May 8th? Or does the drug screening and background check have to be started by May 8th?

How much?

Hey everyone,

I just spoke to a Castle Branch Representative this morning regarding the response time for the background check once submitted. She informed me that any county that has their courts closed is not processing background checks.

I reside in Orange County. She was able to look up on her end and confirm that I fall into this problem. She said I may submit the background check and the Orange County Court system will receive it but until the closure is lifted they will not begin to process/complete the background check to then be able to send back results to Castle Branch.

The deadline for a completed background check is May 8th in the to do list. If the results are not sent to castle branch due to court closure do you guys think their will be an extension for the background check results ?

I’m wondering if Rio Hondo will accept it as long as the background check has been started/sent but not processed/completed/ returned to Castlebranch from the court system on May 8th?

This is a similar reason as to why the fire safety card deadline is extended. So I’m wondering if the background result deadline be extended?

I emailed Catherine and Roxanna waiting on a response. What do you guys think?

Hi...your in the Spring thread..not the Summer thread. But as soon as you pay for and set up castle branch, the background check is automatically done for you. We dont have to do anything. Everything has to be completed by May 8th. I think you should start asap.
