Rio Hondo College ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hey everyone! I thought I'd open this forum for those of us applying to Rio Hondo. Applications are right around the corner and it would be great to use this as a means of communication. Feel free to post, ask questions, or respond. I hope to hear from you!

Hey yall! I just received a late acceptance? But I do have a question..

Does this program require you to have health insurance? I'm in the process of shopping health insurance as I just left work.. I have my mandatory mtg tomorrow so i'm feeling a bit anxious /: Did they req. proof from you or did you just have to complete the physical/ health screening?

We didn't have to show proof of health insurance,,,just the physical exam form filled out by a physician. But I'm assuming somewhere along the line they would need the student to have health insurance for safety reasons and such....You should definitely ask about it tomorrow in that meeting. Good luck!

Will do and thanks for your response!

Could someone please send me a picture of the syllabus that includes the textbook we need for fundamentals? I wasn't able to pick up them up today because bookstore closed early. I'd really appreciate it! ?

Thank you!!

So I looked thru the syllabus and it says to be in uniform in the clinical setting whether at college or clinical site. So does this mean we come in uniform on this first day? I'm gonna try and be on the safe side and arrive with it on. but just wanted to make sure with ya'll.

Is this for the regular 2 year RN Program? Best to be on the safe side. You can always bring your regular clothing and place them inside your car if you need to change. I am enrolled in the 1 year RN (LVN to ADN). We start class on March 30th.

I'm in the regular ADN program so we start this 27th. Yeah, I think I will do just that. thanks!

Hi Jesabvall2019...How was your 1st day? Did you have to wear your nursing uniform, or was it OK to wear regular clothing?

to NurseRIT:

it went well. So it turned out that yes, we were expected to wear uniform but only for lab section. Some people didn't but the professors were relaxed about it since it was the first day and all. During lecture you don't need it, however. But since I started with my lab and then went straight to lecture I just kept mine on.

side note: for the uniform you can wear an undershirt/longsleeve but it must be white. some clinical sites check for white socks. Try and get a good pair of white leather comfy shoes. ? They also recommended us compression socks.

Hi Jesabvall2019,

Glad everything turned out fine. I plan on wearing my uniform all day too when I start in March. White long sleeves are nice to wear since it is still cold. Also, we can wear a white lab coat too on top of our nursing uniforms. I am looking into purchasing white leather non-slip Skecher, Nursemate, etc. type of nursing shoes.
