Rio Hondo College ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hey everyone! I thought I'd open this forum for those of us applying to Rio Hondo. Applications are right around the corner and it would be great to use this as a means of communication. Feel free to post, ask questions, or respond. I hope to hear from you!

Hi everyone !
I received an email saying I was provisionally accepted into the program I was an alternate before.
I had a question. At the information meeting she said we needed to turn in a passport photo with our flu shot ?

Yes, aside from the Castlebranch account,,,,you have to turn in a packet to the Nusing dept at Rio hondo with: 1)Flu shot proof, 2)CPR card copy (in color), 3)2x2 Passport foto, 4) Fire Card copy (in color). Put it all in a manila envelope with your name, student ID, and the program and cohort you are in.

Congratsssss!!!!! I was also on waitlist as well and got in.

Hello,

Congrats on those who have been selected into Rio Hondo College for the 2 year RN and the LVN to ADN (RN) Programs! The deadline to turn everything in with CastleBranch, immunizations, etc. is January 3, 2020! As mentioned previously, if you are a Rio Hondo student you can get a free vision and hearing test. I believe they also do titers but you have to pay per each individual titer. They do not provide immunizations. Your immunizations can be obtained through your physician, or you can call the nearest public health community clinic near your home. Look for more information from the packet that was handed out during orientation. Best of luck....

I had accepted my admission invite but will now be turning it down. I attended the orientation and even ordered my uniform. I just sent my email letting them know that I will be turning down my seat. Good luck!

Hi everyone I had a question about titers.
my lab work came back and I need boosters for mmr and varicella. I’m scheduled to get the shots on Monday 12/16 but I was reading that I should wait 6-8 weeks to get my titers done again would this possibly stop me from starting the program ? That’s the only thing I have left to do.

Hi Chels....I took a picture on the bottom of the uniform order paperwork. I have their contact info.

Hi Chels.....

About titers, I would call Ms. Roxanna Gomez/Rio Hondo College Dept. of Nursing to confirm the correct info. The office phone number is (562) 908-3421. I believe as long as you prove you have received a certain booster or series, it should be fine. Then, repeat the titer in 6 weeks. Again, I would call Roxanna or stop by her office to be sure! Be aware Rio Hondo College will be closed after December 19th for the holidays. Do take care if this right away. I think the college starts again on Jan. 2nd or 3rd.

Hello if your interested in selling your uniform please let me know what size you are! Thanks!

Hi everyone so I wanted to if anybody could help me out. So I need to get. TD is booster and I cannot find anyone that does it they all just do the t dap not even my dr. I spoke with roxanna and via e mail and she corrected me saying I need the TD booster when I said my dr has the t dap. I would have thought that getting another t dap would be okay my dr said they don’t do boosters they just give the t dap every ten year as did cvs Walgreens and rite aid. I tried to clarify with her if I could get the tdap vaccine from my dr but she did not write back and I believe they’re off until the 2nd. If anyone knows where I can get a td booster please let me know thank you!

I hope this helps: In my computer immunization records and my yellow paper documents, my clinic has my older ones listed as DTaP....and the more recent one (which still applies to me) as Tdap. I turned in this info into the Castlebranch and it cleared thru and has listed me as done and "Compliant"....I don't think they would make an error there. and I got it all done in Dec10...I imagine if I had any error the Rio hondo counselor would have contacted me by now to let me know. Just get the Tdap.

Hello to Jesabvall2019 and Lauren Renee,

Tdap is a combination vaccine that protects against three potentially life-threatening bacterial diseases: tetorifice, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). Td is a booster vaccine for tetorifice and diphtheria. It does not protect against pertussis. Tetorifice enters the body through a wound or cut. I would just go ahead and get the Tdap immunization. It is good for 10 years. If you can't get it from your physician's office, look at nearby public health or community clinics near you. Call them first to see if you need an appointment or is it walk in. Different places charge various prices. Shop around. Let them know you are a college student. Be sure to bring your immunization record with you to get your Tdap entered into it. Good luck...

Hello Lauren,

You should try the Whittier public health center. 562-464-5350 that’s their number. They were able to help me get booster shots for MMR and varicella.

To Everyone,

I accessed the Rio Hondo College website. Even though we have not been "officially accepted yt since our CastleBranch has to be reviewed and cleared, here is the LVN to RN course information:

ADN 075 - LVN Trans/ADN Prog

2.5 Credits

CRN #36061

Nursing Professor-Monique Velasco

***On Mondays only!

From 07:30 am - 12:00 pm, Science Room #202

From 01:00 pm - 04:25 pm, Science Room # 204

I don't know if we have to attend both sessions all day. Or, if the class is split into 1/2. Where maybe 8 people attend 07:30 am - 12:00 pm. And, the other 8 people attend 01:00 pm - 04:25 pm. We will find out soon. Has anybody received their nursing uniforms yet? Thanks ?
