Anyone into the Netflix series Mindhunters might have seen the episode about the interview of Richard Speck. In 1966 Speck massacred 8 student nurses. Corazon Amurao Atienza was the lone surviving student, who went on to become a nurse and have children and grandchildren. She survived by hiding under the bed, while one by one her classmates were killed.

The Netflix series is awesome. It is about the infancy of the behavioral analysis unit of the FBI in the 1970s. The story about this nurse is inspiring.

Oh wow- I will have to watch this. I am from Chicago, and was 11 when this happened.

Later in life, I worked with the mother of one of the victims (she was our unit secretary). And a close friend's mother was the nurse who cared for Speck in the ER in Joliet when he died. I always found it ironic that the last face he ever saw was that of a nurse.

It is gratifying to hear that Corazon has overcome this horrific tragedy and had a useful and productive life.

Not meaning to hijack the post, but another 'evil' Spawn from Hell recently died. Charles Manson just died recently.

The world has too many evil persons!

I had a client who worked in the prison system. He was a neat guy with fascinating stories, but anyway, he said Speck was the most vile person he ever met. No shocker there.

I could not imagine the horror Corazon endured. Bless her.

Yep! Love the show! I'm from Chicago too.

I binged the whole season last weekend!
