Returning Lpn student in late 30's, married with teenage kids..

Hello everyone!

I am a 38 year old who is married with teenage kids returning to school after a almost 2 year hiatus.

I want to start a thread for individuals who were once in Lpn school,

but life happened ( burnout, moved, had children, married, divorced, or just flat out needed a break to regroup) who are either currently in and or returning to school soon.

I recently reapplied and am hopefully anticipating admission for Spring 2015. I was one of the oldest students in my class at the time and anticipate that I will be again. I just want to have a place to come to for us older students, where we can relate to one another and occasionally vent, uplift and motivate, share our experiences in class and clinical rotations, share study tips.... Skies the Limit!!

So if you are middle aged (or older) and starting or returning to Lpn school, please feel free to chime in. I hope to build some awesome relationships and to be here for one another during our journey all the way until graduation and beyond:)

I'm 39 and on my 4th week of lpn school, married with an almost teenage boy. If this is middle age, then I'm loving it! :up:

Great, that's what I like to hear! I just word today that I have been accepted back into school, however; I still have to be re-ranked for re- admission into the nursing program. I had very good grades so I am praying for a miracle this Spring semester. How's nursing school treating you so far? My greatest challenge was drug calculations... Ugh, but I passed after a second attempt with a B. If I can do it, ANYONE can do it.

When I was in LPN school 32 years ago, there were several older students in there. One was 58 and laid off from a manufacturing job with no hope of getting called back. Another was a grandmother at 55.

So at 38, I'd consider you a "youngster". Good luck!!!

I'm waiting to hear if I get to start this Spring, and I am 39 with 5 children ages 16, 14, 11, 10, and 7. My 16 year old is a senior, so there is all kinds of extra activity that comes with that. They're all involved in sports, music, clubs, and religious education, and my husband I teach a class at our church every Tuesday night. I'm also (unfortunately) on my HOA board. And I work three NOC 12s a week around my husband's full time M-F job.

I think if someone like me is insane enough to think they can go to school, you can certainly do it too! ;)

PS I was never in nursing school before, but have a bachelor's in political science from 17 years ago that I never used for employment. I got married and stayed home with my babies for 15 years. :)

I'm 39, just got my RN, was a LPN for 2 years prior, 3 kids 8,10&13 and I worked full time through school. It was rough but I survived. My support system rocks!! Good luck!

There are students who are aged in their mid-40s in my class. They seem to be very academic.

Also: one of my patients today said she's a 57 y/o student working at a children's hospital and getting her tuition paid to be a speech pathologist ... Never too old
