i'm really depress right now.i am a tourist visa holder and i'm here in US at the moment,i finished all my exams already including nclex and ielts and this freezing of visas really ****** me off and i'm losing hope already.do u have any idea when it will end?is there a possibility that visas for nurses will be available this year?i really don't know what to do.regarding the issuance of working visa is there such a thing can my employer issue me a temporary working permit?it confuses me a lot. i did apply for student visa cause my lawyer advice me to enroll in a school to extend my stay here in able for me to find an employer once the visa will open.my dreams will all be gone in trash.
I badly needed some replies here.i'm desperate wanting work already so i can support my family and myself:(
Another thing is, can i get a drivers license and a TIN number while I'm in student visa?cause I heard TIN number can be issued and your license will be release but it cannot be renewed.
Only if you meet ITIN requirements will you get a number.
IRS issues ITINs to individuals who are required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain a Social Security Number (SSN) from the Social Security Administration (SSA).
ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because both resident and nonresident aliens may have U.S. tax return and payment responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code.
Individuals must have a filing requirement and file a valid federal income tax return to receive an ITIN, unless they meet an exception.

The United States does not owe you anything. It was your choice to put all your eggs in that basket, and your choice to go there on a tourist visa with NO GUARANTEES of anything. It's rather selfish to attempt to bypass the legal requirements in place and to push aside others who have been waiting a really long time for their chance to grab the brass ring. There are NO shortcuts. If you don't have a Plan B, you need to develop one because the reality is, you aren't going to be working in the US for years and years and you need to work.
This is the general thinking of many Pinoy RNs that having a tourist visa and its off to the USA with you to jump the Retrogression. People need to be educated that this is improper. If you become miserable because of your eagerness to jump ahead of everybody else, it's your own fault.
Pinoy RNs are now talking about the "hot" student visa that they think is now another loophole to enter the USA and work.
i don't want anyone to get offended here and sarcastic replies will not do any good.i'm just discussing my own problem and i'm just suggesting views from you guys.don't take this too personally.this is a case to case basis and mind you that PRAYER CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING!
Green jungle and jfrn:I am not selfish and i am properly educated regarding this matter.I am just ranting based on what i am experiencing right now!and also the immigration granted me a b2 visa you can't blame me in hoping that I might get a working visa soon but in GOD's help i know i can survive this! god bless you!!!!
Honestly, have y'all read the boards?!? American born and educated nurses are not getting hired in many places...new grads AND experienced nurses. There are lay-offs in some instances. When there are jobs THEY should be at the front of the line...sorry for being so blunt.
i know and this is reality..thanks
Are ITINs valid for work purposes?
No. ITINs are for federal income tax purposes only. Getting an ITIN does not change your immigration status or your right to work in the United States.

Important Warning for Tourist Visa Holders: Persons admitted to the United States on a B-2 Tourist Visa are not allowed to work or receive any kind of payment while staying in the United States. Foreign nationals who wish to work in the United States must apply for a work visa, such as the H-1B Visa or H-2B Visa.
Last point, I believe in prayer too, perhaps God will give you the wisdom to make the right choice, which is to return home.

you know what i'm not considering to be illegal here in US that's why i did apply for student visa.i am just asking about how to get an ITIN because from that i would be able to get my license and not a reason to have work!!!!
What state are you in? Most (if not all) states don't issue DL to people on B1/B2 visas, even to those who have SSN. I think what you are doing now is not wise, at least that's how it appears to me from your description of the situation. Retrogression may last for years to come, how are you going to support yourself? Wouldn't it be wiser to get your initial experience in some other country and then to come back when you turn comes? Also, if your new F-1 status will be granted, your current visa will not be valid anymore and you will not be able to travel outside the United States possibly for years. The only advantage to apply for F-1 status now is that the processing times are long, and it buys you some time, possibly 5-6 month (depending on your service center) before the decision is made on your application.

I don't think there is any plan at all. It's all clear with the lawyer though, his plan is to milk the client as much as possible
