RETROGRESSION! when it will end?

Published

i'm really depress right now.i am a tourist visa holder and i'm here in US at the moment,i finished all my exams already including nclex and ielts and this freezing of visas really ****** me off and i'm losing hope already.do u have any idea when it will end?is there a possibility that visas for nurses will be available this year?i really don't know what to do.regarding the issuance of working visa is there such a thing can my employer issue me a temporary working permit?it confuses me a lot. i did apply for student visa cause my lawyer advice me to enroll in a school to extend my stay here in able for me to find an employer once the visa will open.my dreams will all be gone in trash.

I badly needed some replies here.i'm desperate wanting work already so i can support my family and myself:(

What state are you in? Most (if not all) states don't issue DL to people on B1/B2 visas, even to those who have SSN. I think what you are doing now is not wise, at least that's how it appears to me from your description of the situation. Retrogression may last for years to come, how are you going to support yourself? Wouldn't it be wiser to get your initial experience in some other country and then to come back when you turn comes? Also, if your new F-1 status will be granted, your current visa will not be valid anymore and you will not be able to travel outside the United States possibly for years. The only advantage to apply for F-1 status now is that the processing times are long, and it buys you some time, possibly 5-6 month (depending on your service center) before the decision is made on your application.

I am here in las vegas and my mom who is also an RN here will support me in my financial needs. By the way you can travel outside US while you are in a student visa and that is one of the scope of f1 depending on breaks. I have doubts in returning home cause my b2 visa will expire soon and there is no possible way that the US embassy will issue me another multiple entry. This is really a risk that i have to take, most of my friends here are doing the same, the f1 processing the least is 1 month and the most is 3 months. We cannot control the situation.Visa is also a lottery and more on LUCK!

I feel sorry for your current plight and I know your intentions are pure. You just want to practice your profession here in the U.S. and at the same time earn a good living for yourself and for your family, but if you overstay your visa you could be barred from re-entering the United States from a period of 3 years to as long as 10 years.

Even if you are able to obtain a student visa you would still have to apply for and then wait a long time for your working visa due to retrogression. You are aware that what you are doing is not fair to those who applied ahead of you and they have been waiting patiently all these years.

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area the end of the nursing shortage was recently reported by one of the local t.v. stations (it was KTVU Channel 2, for those who live in the region). Many American nurses now have to wait months before they are called for job interviews, if they are the lucky few who get the call at all.

Why do you think that U.S. hospitals will be hiring foreign nurses in substantial numbers now that the U.S. is experiencing its worst economic crisis in 70 years? I have been in the U.S. for 31 years and I've seen several economic recessions but the previous ones were mild and shorter compared to what we're enduring right now. If you have been watching the news on a daily basis then you've heard that every month hundreds of thousands of Americans are being laid off from their jobs. When they lose their jobs, Americans lose their health coverage as well, then they stop or defer going to their doctors. This reduces the demand for nurses in private hospitals.

Unless you have a pending valid family petition which I don't think you do based on your information, you should consider other countries in the meantime until the U.S. recovers from this deep economic recession. You are not alone in this, and I understand you frustration but my humble advice to you is to simply play it FAIR.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I am playing FAIR and as what I've said this is a case to case basis. I know the risk that I would have to take. How can you say that I am not playing equal? I never have or had intention to jump off over the thousand of nurses that is ahead of me. I'm not stepping on other's shoes. You cannot blame me for hoping, i have no choice and the only legal way that I have in mind is to get an F1.This is just between my career and my future.Don't get me wrong, I just want to have some relief and nice advice from people here but they are more prejudice.I'm more than disappointed right now. anyways, thanks for replying and spending time reading this thread

What you are saying contradicts your action. You said you are playing it fair but you came to the U.S. on a Tourist visa. You should be "touring" and not trying to change your status.

You are claiming that you are not stepping on other people's shoes but what you want is to get a work visa as a nurse. You are in effect trying to cut in the visa line. With all due respect to you my fellow nurse, I think you are in denial pure and simple. Just read what you have been posting. Just pretend it was posted by a person other than you, how would you feel about what this person has been saying?

whatever! you don't know what i have been going through!you are not GOD trying to put me down!god bless you..end of this discussion

You came here asking the question "when will retrogression end?"

You asked for advice from your fellow nurses, and you have received responses from numerous people.

Unfortunately, the responses you are receiving are not what you want to hear, and you seem to be dismissing them. No one is going to tell you that there is an easy way for you to stay in the US and work--not with a student visa, not with a tourist visa--because it is not possible at this time. You also mentioned the possibility of a fiancee visa, and unless you actually have a fiancee, that would be considered fraud and will get you deported.

Your situation is not unique. These boards are filled with people who want to stay in the US with a tourist/student/fiancee visa--basically any type of visa they can lay their hands on! Many posters think they "have to work," and are looking for ways to stay in the US rather than going through the proper immigration procedure. Everyone thinks their situation is special, but most are not. Just because you are currently in the US doesn't--and shouldn't--give you any advantage in terms of immigration. People wait years for their opportunity to immigrate, and the ones who wait are the ones who should be first in line.

I would encourage you to do some reading--a lot of reading--on these boards. You will see that many people are in the same boat as you are. The US economy is faltering, and US nurses are losing their jobs. The priority is for these nurses to get back to work. Petitioning foreign nurses when US unemployment is rising makes no sense at all. Many people mention their "faith in God," and "praying for a miracle," but refuse to look at the reality of the current situation. Prayer is fine--it gives a lot of people comfort--but it's not going to end the retrogression any time soon...

As I understand it applying for a F1 you have to prove that you can support yourself and have the funds to do the course. Will also expect the course to be full time. I really do think you have a long road ahead of you and even looking at other countries will take several months to apply. We also do not see many extend their tourist visa to stay unless very extreme circumstances like severe illness. You will have to seriously consider returning home until you get something sorted.

well what i will advice is for u to apply to other places like canada/ireland for the meantime....and if later the opportunity opens for US then u can come to US..but waiting for visa to be open to enter US or to be on a student visa to me is a long wait and very expensive...talking from experince here.....and u don't know how long u will hav to wait especailly at this time of recession.

Even applying to another country is going to take over 6 months for processing.
