Retrogression Ending

Legislation Introduced in Congress

May 27, 2009 - New legislation specifically aimed at ending visa retrogression for RNs was introduced in the United States Congress May 20, 2009. The currently proposed legislation closely mirrors a 2008 proposal that called for RNs to be exempted from any numerical limit on visas until 2012.

While this is only the first of many steps before this Bill becomes law, it is a positive development after many months of no legislative action at all on this issue.

We believe that there are several reasons for cautious optimism that a solution to visa retrogression will be found this year.

Firstly, President Obama appears to be willing to tackle several complex issues at the same time and he has clearly stated that he intendeds to get to work on immigration reforms starting now.

Also, the current legislative proposal had gained significant support in the House of Representatives and the Senate before the elected officials all went campaigning for the fall 2008 federal election. It is very likely that those who supported the measure in 2008 will continue to support the current effort.

While the current economic downturn has resulted in a sharp reduction in nursing and allied health vacancies for some employers, the facts are that the current economic conditions have not changed the demographic profile of the country and that the medium-long term trends continues to point to an increasing shortage of health care providers.

I think it was meant as tongue in cheek humour...

I'm glad to hear people finally choosing Canada for reasons other than as a "stepping stone" to the US!

In this economic climate it certainly makes sense.

As you may have heard, here in the US we have to scrape the gold off our streets so that we can bail out General Motors...

Oh, please -- more like the biggest bully on the playground.

When some one shows up waving the Red White and Blue of the Great USA, and offering Medical Aid, Economics Aid, Military Aid then that ole Bully Seems likes your best friend

Sure... mark that is true.

But what about if "the great USA" makes a mistake or fault against those they are helping? They also get away with it, right? Remember the rape cases in the Philippines? That leaves you thinking about how powerful people get away with everything...

Interesting how a thread titled "retrogression all is not lost"--in which people are hoping to be able to come to the US--has turned into a US-bashing free-for-all!

There is no one perfect country, not even the US.

We all know that.

No one is forcing anyone to come here.

It is not just in the US that "powerful people get away with everything," either. In fact, there are many other countries where corruption, bribery, and lying are the the very foundations of their government!

And FYI, the US government takes allegations of rape very seriously. (If you are referring to the case in 2005, please remember that after the soldier was convicted, the alleged victim recanted her allegations!)

I realize that my post is off the original topic, but I wanted to respond to the above poster's remarks denigrating the United States.

Are you talking about the Bataan Death Where Japanesee troops raped Filipino and Americans troops, and gutted them and seriously tortured them, after they surrendered during WW 2.

If so the USA paid the Japan back with two black eyes, and soon after that Japan raised the white surrender flag

I think this thread has digressed. It has nothing to do with retrogression, and we are talking now about WW2.

OK Can we please get back to topic of the thread and not digressing to other things. If this persists the thread will be closed.

Lets get back to the topic Retrogression
