Your Retirement Benefit: How its calculated
Use Social Security retirement calculators to estimate your benefits
londonflo said:I wish the calculation was FOR all the years I contributed. I really needed the SS at that time to actually make future for myself. (working toward my degree) My sole financial support was gone when my mother died. I worked very hard to make ends meet and SS was always taken OUT of my check - whether I could eat or not. (Have any of you eaten "potted meat product"? ).
But now that contribution does not count.
( BTW, my husband (who is a CPA) talks in quarters..not years.)
This all came about about because of Reagnomics. Thank God that teachers may (?) get what is due them.
Dr. ED, PhD, who received a doctorate degree should not be confused with (Mr) ED. Mr ED was a DVM.
If they drop the low earning years, doesn't that raise the average income that they use as the basis of your SS earnings? I'm OK with them not using the income I earned on my paper route or stuffing tampons into the boxes:)

Right, it is very alarming that Musk is trying to cut SS staff, when they are already at a historic 50 year low of employees and having trouble with retention! They need more staff and investment in new computer systems, not less! Also I read the other day Congress wanted to raise SS age to 69 for everyone 59 or older! That is insane! A lot of people don't live that long. On top of that the last SS Commissioner said he figures about 30K people die waiting for disability! They make the process very hard, deny most on the first try and you can literally wait years to get approved. This will lead to even more people dying!

Musk recently said that the entitlements needed to go. It's a plan.

Gosh....how did it get so bad? It certainly wasn't Musk and Trump's fault. You should be blaming Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell, and the like.

Raising the cap on income taxed for FICA has long been proposed as a means to fund SS. Unfortunately , this would likely take a filibuster-proof senate, which the democrats haven't had since the first Obama term. Republicans have no desire to fund SS. Their answer is usually to raise the retirement age.

Not buying it. Both parties have managed to get things done without a filibuster proof Senate.
Since you brought it up, do you remember why didn't Democrats get it done when they had the filibuster proof Senate? If you do remember, then you must also realize Obama is another one that can share in receiving blame for the SS issue festering.

For what, exactly? Don't you remember Gore talking about the "lockbox?" Ronald Regan was the first president who used SS for a money grab so this has been a long time coming. Gore ran on the position of stopping the transfer from SS to pay other debts. He was a Democrat in case you don't remember.

That's the plan to save money. They are just waiting for the boomers to die not realizing that many of them are still working and paying taxes. I'm so totally OK with raising the cap for high earners to full-salary. It never made much difference in my take-home when I fulfilled my contribution cap.

Sorry he is a PhD. He has his own YouTube site. For some reason the link didn't work, but if you search it on YouTube or Google you should be able to find the video where he explains the process in depth and has many other informative videos as well.
