all the moderators get notified of all reported posts. we look there and the first dozen posts are wonderful, helpful, really good.

then on occasion a little bickering between posters, totally off the subject starts up and takes up a couple of pages back and forth and sometimes gets nasty.

now, do we leave this mess, do we delete this mess...heck even i don't know. if you want to "disagree one on one" take it to pm and don't spoil the good posts.

ok y'all. debate is good. consolation is good. challenge is good.

backbiting, bi*****g, nasty comments are not good.

play pretty now and follow big daddy's rules you all agreed to when you registered here.

If anyone is curious about specific threads, I'll share a trick I picked up early on when I was curious about seemingly hostile posts in a thread I was following. I checked the posters profile, read through some of the other threads the poster had joined and concluded that, yes, there was a general tone of hostility. I also looked at the posters web page. I felt I needed to check my perceptions before making a comment regarding them.

Go to my profile and see where I have posted before. No PMs are really needed to get that information.

The moderator who started this thread did not refer to any other threads in particular. I chose to respond to this post without referring to specific threads.

Anne, I did what you suggested. If you are referring to the "glove" post, I didn't find your posts offensive at all, and I don't think anyone else did from the tone of the posts. P_RN must be talking about something much worse than that. I have read threads where the bickering, name calling, etc became extremely offensive and I have to think that this thread is not referring to anything you posted. I found your posts to be clear and interesting and very imformative. So if you took the "bomb" statement the wrong way, I really don't think it was a big deal and you explained yourself & apologized anyway.

So I am still curious!

BTW, I do think it is a good idea to remove posts that degenerate into bickering and name calling. When there are strong debaters who still offer useful info it should stay but if the purpose of the post is to inflame or name call-I say pull it!

Many of the threads in which I felt yelled out, if you will, have stopped being active. They go back to when I first started posting (about a month ago) and don't show up in "the last two days."

One was shut down by a moderator because the tone had become so harsh. That was when I was PM'd by a poster who was frustrated at not being able to bash me on the thread. At least, that's how it sounded. In fact, the PM said something like "I wish they hadn't shut this down so I could say it on the thread."

The thread itself, the poster and the private message have dift levels of confidentiality. As I said, all posts can be found, all threads to which anyone has posted can be found by clicking on "user profile". Someone might agree that I might be more upset by one post than another and deduce that is the poster I am referring to. I will answer such a question when sent as a PM, not in a public forum. The private message, and its sender, are private. I've been too brainwashed about privacy and confidentiality to reveal those things.

But, anything posted in a general discussion is public, not private, and available for all to see. Yes, I skimmed the agreement I agreed to when I joined this forum. I know I should not admit to not reading it fully and carefully, I wonder how many do? I find the divisions between "public" and "private" pretty obvious, though. Anything public can be found with a mouse click.

Nevermind . . . post erased.

I think that anything that someone can read anything into it. Like you write something on a thread and no matter how nice you say it somebody starts to think that you are upset with something that you said. I think that in our profession that is as stressful as it is we can certainly put in more words than really should be in them. I think that we just have to take everybodys posting with a grain of salt. :D

It is interesting, though, that someone received a PM re "ties to this thread." I did not know that there were any specific ties to any threads.

Threads like these do not just pop up every once in awhile, for no reason. There is usually something going on that the moderators try to stop before it gets out of hand.

I asked if starting this "be nice" thread was in reference to any other particular thread. I then received a PM from someone who told me which specific thread had triggered this one. And there is a specific thread. P_RN's message appears exactly the same way in that thread as it does here.

Another point I wanted to make. All posts are not public and viewable by me. When a thread is removed, for whatever reason, those posts are no longer in a member's profile. So any truly offensive statements one makes have the potential to be moved out of public view as soon as the thread is.

Just wanted to clear some things up.

I agree with this thread and the opinions posted...some threads i scratch my head and say "Where is all this hostility coming from?' then I find out it is a carryover from OTHER threads where someone has been offended...

Something I have found very helpful to me here on Allnurses is to utilize the ignore feature for the more, er...imflammatory members here and question whether I'm really in a calm enough mood to read them 'today'...particularly on certain subjects.;)

If I'm in a good mood I might choose to read these posts and respond...if I'm in a pizzy mood I generally avoid so I don't post something I may regret...LOL! To feed the angry beast ensures it's survival...LOL.

I love Allnurses and in general I really enjoy the sharing and camaraderie here. Like everywhere we go, I have found friends and also those I cannot feel warmly towards. ;)

Okay guys - I'm not too computer literate, so I know its not me being mean. However, I'm just nosy enough to want to know what this thread is all about???

Anyway - everyone have a nice day.

I personally dream of working at Aldi's grocery store. They only take cash, you have to bring your own bags and bag stuff yourself and they are closed on Sunday - not bad, hunh???

Im with you traumaRUs....i dont got a clue:chair:..and i hope i aint one of the "hostile ones" whoever they are. I personally think allnurses is cool  along with al posters. every body kiss an make-up? :kiss:confused:

I know I haven't been contentious....I AM naughty on the rarest of occasions.....

Pier One.....I want to work at Pier One.......Get an employee discount......besides....its right next to Baskin-Robbins.....

I've been following the thread that I'm assuming this is about, and to be perfectly honest I just skip over the personal attacks, especially on the thread in question-it's absolutely ridiculous.

I say leave them so that the posters can go back and feel stupid for trying unsuccessfully to turn the thread into something else, because it didn't work the thread went on.

People have the opportunity to go back and edit and if they don't exercise that right then-they should be able to take what they dish out.

I'm glad I'm not a moderator

Somedays I just want to work at Target for the rest of my life...sigh...a discount and a snack bar at my finger tips--the good life!!
