370$ to renew my annual nursing license! AHHH

Published

Wow! I just got an email to renew my annual nursing license and I almost cried...its 370! I am a new grad so this is my first time :( I figured 125$ at the most but I almost stroked when I saw the cost!!!

It says 158 for re instatement fees so I am guessing thats if you let you license lapse but it says 370$ for yearly 2010 license renewal for practicing registered nurse. Dang

Unless someone can see otherwise, it is what I think it is! I live in British Columbia Canada. Seriously how much does it really cost to renew a practicing license? It's a piece of paper https://www.crnbc.ca/Registration/Fees/Pages/FeesMarch2010.aspx

Edit: I dont feel as bad now...Saskatchewan charges 535$ to renew your annual license as far I can see unless I am reading it wrong on their website...

The Canadian dollar is pretty high now...370$ CDN = 355$ as of today.

The lapse fee is seperate...the annual license fee is actually 370$. I guess ill stop whining now about it tho! Its just sucky

Wellll thats with funny money. With the exchange rate, minus your lapse fee it doesn't seem that high. Well compared to Texas its a bit pricey

$65USD for 2 years in Ohio. I'm assuming the $370 is Canadian?

It is $45 for two years in Pennsylvania and $45 for a year in Maryland.

That IS high! I'd be whining, too! My state just increased ours to $120 every 2 years and I thought that was high.

What do you do in Maryland that your license is $45 a year?

I am a RN and pay $78 a year for MD RN license renewal. DC is $120 for two year license renewal. Good thing is MD is a Compact State, comes in handy for travel assignments.

Specializes in medical.

It's about 90$ every 2 years in Virginia. Everything seems to be more expensive in Canada. USA is a good bargain country!

Specializes in Acute Care Psych, DNP Student.

It really matters what state you are in. I'm in the Southwestern US, and my first license application (RN) was $350.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

Alberta is charging $472.50 plus GST for 2010. We also had to pay a month earlier than usual, by the end of August, when our practice permit didn't expire until September 30. This money pays for more than just a piece of paper (although I agree that it's just WAY too much!). You also are provided membership in the Canadian Nurses Association, the Canadian Nurse Protective Society () and annual subscriptions to Canadian Nurse and the provincial College's nursing journal. At the same time you're paying for all the operating expenses of the College, for regulatory and governance activities and administration of the continuing competency requirements in your province. Ontario has the lowest registration fee, but many of their nurses also are registered with the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario and pay almost the difference in fees to them. CNO only registers them for legal purposes, the rest of the package comes from RNAO.

Specializes in ER.

$70 every two years in Maine.

$456 yearly in Nova Scotia.

I'll have to call CRNBC...I don't know if we get ? I thought we just paid for the licenes renewal It would be nice if for the cost they would throw some extras in!

I know this is off topic, but I just have to mention how impressed I am with the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario. RNAO puts out such good research and publications.
