Hello to all!

I am an RN in a level II NICU hospital located in west Texas. I am in a desperate need of change, I would like to relocate myself and my family to sunny California. Does anyone know of any good web sites or personal suggestions on a good place to call home? I was thinking San Franscisco, but I hear the cost of living is outrageous. Help anyone?

Welcome to California ... the land of fruits, nuts and flakes. But, of course, we love it anyway. :lol2:

Only in California would a federal judge (who happens to be an old time Carter liberal who lives in San Fran, of course) order the prison system to improve healthcare for convicted felons, of all people ...

And in the process order the state to pay RN's nearly $90K a year ... soon to be $100K. So now I'm making $40 an hour, $60 an hour OT doing paperwork all day ... I get a $1,500 bonus after the first month and another $1,500 bonus in six months ... and another $1,500 in 18 months.

Yeah ... the cost of living is high (although not so high out in the desert where I live) but generally ... it's great for RN's. We're also the only state that has a ratio law.

Ohhhhhhh.......

Aha! My Cali compatriots are talking about me behind my back again, I see.

My ears were burning.....

TazziRn, Stevielynn, and Msdobson, You fellows are so hilarious!! I was cracking up with your pingpong posts. Those funny dog and tinnie evil icons with your names added up to the dramatic effects of your messages. I can't believe you fellows have chased my rabit that far!

My abs got a good exercise laughing hard here and my cheek hurts a bit:lol2:

We aim to please!

Perhaps you may wish to visit the California Nurses Forum so you can get a good mixture of more serious responses from the other nurses who live and work in California. Good luck to you!
