Ok, so Im still learning about the whole college thing. I wish I knew half the things I did today when I first graduated highschool...but its too late and Ive wasted 2 years already. Im 19 and finishing my second year of college. I attended a 4 year college but they wanted me to graduate in 5 years because 'they thought it would be best for me'. I do not like wasting time so I went to a community college and took pre reqs for mount carmel college of nursing. I applied and the other day I got my rejection letter. I cried my eyes out...I worked SO HARD. SO many sleep less nights, crying and stress. It isnt fair. I also applied my senior year in highschool and got rejected. I can understand because then I had a 2.8. I changed my ways and I now almost have 3.3. They told me to bring my gpa up a couple years back and I still got rejected. I dont get it. Im pretty much done everything except for organic chem and the two anatomys. Ive had to drop the classes before. I did not want to get a bad grade like I did in microbio. I got a D the first time and re took it and got a B. I had no idea I could drop classes *face palm* if I had known I would have. Anyways...I know I shouldnt blame teachers but its honesly impossible to pass some classes with the way they teach. Im kind of getting off topic..but I feel hopeless. I wish I had just went for my associates right out of highschool. I could have graduated this june and then went on for my RN. Now look...all I have are worthless pre reqs no degree and no school wants me. How am I supposed to do anything I want in life if Im never given a chance. Im currently working on getting my STNA. Ive never had a job but Ive done lots of volunteering. Theres not many other colleges to apply to in ohio that I know of. I just sent in my application for Chamberlin but Im afraid I will also get rejected. Im not dumb..but I am a bad test taker. I always second guess myself...hence why I got a 19 the first time on my ACT. I only took it once junior year and didnt think to re take it..now Im considering taking it again...should I? What happens if no school wants me? I dont want to change careers. I dont want my classes to go to waste and I also dont want to waste time ): I know Im only 19 but I wanted to finish when I would be 21. Ive known I wanted to be a neonatal nurse since I was 7 and my sister was born. This is pretty much all I live for. I love helping people. I know what I want...but how am I supposed to get there if no one will give me the chance? ),,: Im so stressed Im getting grey hairs...literally lol. Am I the only one going through this? Im jealous of all the other people gettig into mount carmel...no one has any idea how extra hard I have to work in school ):

I'm sorry to hear about that.. I understand though.. I'm sorta in the same position? I guess.. let's see I graduated hs in '07 and went to get my AA at the local community college here.. I was pre architecture if you wanna call it that (there were no real architecture classes offered at the CC i went to so i took alot of art classes.. which now do nothing for me.. anyways) I got in to an architecture school and finally left home and went away for college Yippee! Anyways I found out that I really wasn't cut out for architecture and I definitely didn't want to do it for the rest of my life so I came back home and started taking pre-reqs for a medical degree (my goal is to evenutally be a PA) Well now i'm finally done with my pre-reqs for nursing school and I applied to 4 nursing schools in the state and I've so far have been dejected by 2 of them.. one of which i thought i had a pretty good fighting chance.. I was never an all A student.. I was kinda of i guess you could say.. not as dedicated to my studies back when i first started college.. and now i finally figured out how to do it.. well it seems to be a little too late.. I still have 2 more chances, but quite honestly these schools are really really hard to get in to and one of them I have like a snow ball's chance in hades for getting in... so I kinda know how you feel.. if I don't get in I don't know what I'm gonna do except maybe eat a ton of Ben and Jerrys and cry for a few days lol... Anyhow.. good luck to you! I'm sure everything will work out :) You're still young :) ( I thought i'd graduate at 21 as well... it's ok not to, it just makes you that more focused on school) Good luck in O'Chem lol That class was quite the doozy. Study hard and you'll do fine.

If you apply and you haven't met all the qualifications (all prerequisites done), even if you have a stellar GPA, you won't be admitted to the program. Some programs may allow you to apply with one or two in-progress prerequisites. None that I know of will admit a student to their program that is completely lacking even a single prerequisite course.
Get your prerequisite courses done and reapply.

I agree with akulahawk, finnish your pre-reqs. You are no where near the admissions radar without them completed. your A&P grades are a big factor in alot of schools admissions. most will not even let you apply without them completed. use this as an oportunity to raise your GPA and rock out in those classes before you give up.

I agree with others...work on finishing your pre-reqs and reapply. Also, consider how these schools rank applicants. If they use a point system, there is a good chance your science courses (like Chem and A&P) carry more weight, so simply lacking those courses might have made you a less competitive applicant. Now that you know where you've made mistakes, focus on doing your best in these important pre-reqs and look forward to applying again with a more competitive record!

I'm so sorry to hear about your rejection...I know first hand how those letters can make you feel...I've received a couple myself...but I didn't let it keep me down for long nor stop me. I too use think like you that I could just get my prereqs and apply...I mean why not my gpa is good ..I'll get in or so I thought....NO.... you can't stop there...the comp is so tough..you got to bring it all to the table...you must complete your prereqs plus all of the academics listed in your program and it wouldn't hurt to have some of the classes completed for your BSN (prereqs and academics) that's what I did then I applied again and Glory to God I finally got the letter for this fall that says: We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted for Fall 2011:yeah: believe me this road was not easy...but I learned the hard way that it takes more than the average to get in to nursing school now days ..since that seems to be the career of choice. So please don't give up you are still young...dust yourself off and finish all your science classes with an A...and then apply again it will be all worth it. Then you too will be doing this :dancgrp:all the way to the hospital!!!!! Good Luck!!!

It's great you raised your GPA & I agree with the other posts about finishing your unfinished pre reqs then reapplying. That is sound advice. You may also need to retake some of the other classes as well if you got a low grade. You might consider contacting the college and find out what the average GPA is for those accepted, if they will tell you that. Because even though 3.3 is good, it might not be good enough for that particular school. At my college the minimum GPA requirement is 2.8, but the competition is fierce! (i.e. about 175 people applying for 90 slots) so the college accepts only the very best; as in nobody with less than a 3.8 GPA gets accepted. Many people get rejected, retake the classes they didn't do well in, reapply and then get accepted. Its not the end of the world and you are not alone. You are very young and have lots of time so if you really want to be a nurse, you will do what you have to do. Good luck to you and never give up.

Have you had a sit-down conversation with the advisor at the nurisng school? I bet they can shed some light on what you were lacking that caused you to be rejected. My experience is that the advisors are usually pretty frank about what they're looking for, what they like and what you would need to do to get accepted.
Retaking the ACT is only a good idea if it's part of their acceptance critera. You'll find that out from the advisor at the school.
Just call and make an appointment. Their job is to talk to people like you.

I agree with ravensroost, they should be able to tell you why you weren't accepted and what you can do to better your odds. We all know that we're in for some competition and most of the programs (at least in my area) base a lot of the applicant's chances of becoming an RN on how they succeed in the natural sciences. Finish your prereqs and talk to an advisor and I'm sure it will all work out in the long run. You are still SOOO young... No need to get down on yourself. You've got a long road ahead, so keep your chin up.

Even if you get an associates in nursing (ADN) you're still an RN...whether you graduate from a 4 year college or a 2 year college you are still eligible to sit for the NCLEX and you're still licensed as an RN and licensed to do the same thing. I work with ADN RNs and BSN RNs. All licensed to do the same thing.
Wait until you take your A&Ps and apply again. Like many other people said your A&P grades are very important to nursing schools. You could also look into private schools. Even though they are more expensive they are usually less competitive.
There's a program for everyone. Some ADN programs run on a lottery system, although you might be on a waitlist for awhile, that's always an option too. Admission to nursing school is competitive. The public school BSN programs around here only require a 2.75 GPA, but in actuality nothing under a 3.7 will get in.

IF they are in progress, then they calculate it as a C, which lowers your points
OP, I would try all the pre reqs again, work your bum off, even try and take them one at a time (I mean your only 19 geez lol) so you can ace them and raise your GPA. Here even a raised 3.3 isnt good enough, more like a 3.8
Dust yourself off and try again, that or choose another profession:down:

Have you considered Ohio State's BSN program? I've applied there and am waiting for my letter. Also, there is Otterbein. That has a BSN program. And then there is Columbus State's ASN program.
I'm also 19 and am hoping to get into Neonatology. Keep trying, keep applying.
