Hello and welcome to allnurses.com
Good to have you with us.
NSO premiums for RN in my state are $89.00/year. Not a major financial issue.
My friend's mom has been a nurse for 30+ years and makes $31 an hour. My friend is saying she brings home $1200 w/ 40 hour weeks and $1400 with overtime every 2 weeks. He is saying that the malpractice and other expenses take out the rest of the money from the paycheck, so that the $1200 is the actual net bring home amount. What I am asking is, how much does malpractice take out of the average nurse's paycheck. After all expenses (that are unique to the nursing field) how much does the average nurse here make per hour and/or per year?
I am a critical care nurse, and run a Legal Nurse Consulting business. With the Legal Nurse rider on the policy, I paid $300 for a years coverage. I don't know how and why your friend's mother is paying for malpractice insurance at her place of employment. Employers are covered under their employers policy. It should not be taken out of her paycheck. I have no idea what your friend is talking about. There are certainly deductions taken out of everyones paycheck for taxes, etc, and usually benefits, But malpractice unsurance is never one of them.

Thanks everyone...I was trying to prove a point to my friend, because I KNEW something wasn't right with those statements....He admitted his mom has a hefty life insurance policy for her family, full medical for everyone, takes out a good 401k, and likely is setting up her check where she gets a big refund at the end of the year. I just had to get the reassurance to double check
We do not have to pay malpractice at my work. Maybe it is an additional insurance offered that she opts to get? But it should not be that much. I only make $22.50 per hour, I take out insurance on my family-both medical and dental-and buy an extra policy for disability, and I put 6% in my 401. And I bring home $1200 every two weeks. So if she makes that much money, she should bring home more than I do.

i would think the big difference would be you are claiming deductions for kids and the person in the op is not.....i figure on clearing no more than 60%......on 31 an hour this would be about 1500 in two weeks

I do not claim my children throughout the year. I claim zero dependents so that I pay the maximum in taxes through the year so that I don't have to end up paying at the end of the year. I have a huge amount of taxes taken out all year long. But for people who do claim their children, that would make a difference.
I'll second the response from sirI. http://www.nso.com
I cannot imagine what money is being withheld from your friends check.
I have my share of deductions and I clear $1800-1900 every two weeks - working 4 shifts a pay period. (2 , 24 hour shifts a week).
Good Luck
