Recovery Trek Question/Board Order

Hi all, I’m not in recovery, however, a complaint was filed against me in 2015 when I worked a 12 hr nightshift, my 3rd in a row, at a new job and had no sleep that day because I received devastating news that I had lost a family member in a terrible accident. I had spent the day trying to get information and grieving. I should’ve called in, but I didn’t. As a result, at work that night I was distracted, had difficulty focusing, nodded off, etc. There were no errors, diversion, neglect but a complaint was called in. I was petrified and did a very bad thing, I tried to ignore it. Therefore I missed a deadline and the complaint was elevated. I paid a non aggressive attorney 10k trying to mediate and resolve it but it was too late. I was offered 12 months indirect supervision with no penalty to my practice. I had to take 3 very expensive educational classes, I had to do at least 64hrs direct care a month (not administrative) and register with Recovery Trek, check it daily and provide a sample once a month. All the attorney did was make money and drag it out. When it was almost completed, 1 month before the 12 months was over, I went in and worked an extra nightshift, went home and fell asleep on the couch and woke up after 3pm which is the deadline for checking Recovery Trek to see if you have to give a sample. It wouldn’t have been so bad but I had been chosen to test that day. As soon as I heard from my contact at the board I immediately went and tested. I was devastated, I offered to test as many times they wanted till the end, but of course they chose to extend the order for 6 months. Due to job changes, etc the last month is finally coming up again in July. I’ve always tested once a month. I tested May 25th this week, then when I checked in yesterday, the 28th I had to test again. That’s never happened, I’m so afraid something is going to happen to mess things up again. I don’t have a reason to think the first test was bad, but dealing with this stuff has made me so paranoid and unsure of myself. I think a big part of this stuff is done to collect fees and make some feel important. I’ve actually thought about just giving up and doing something else, but I don’t know how to be anything other than a nurse.

I’m sorry all of this happened to you! My opinion is that they’re testing more frequently because you’re near the end. Most people say this is what hap happened to them as well. If there was an issue with your first test in May, they would have notified you already. You’re almost done, hang in there!

I agree with 90210! Sounds like its just "end of sentence-let's milk this out" kind of testing. You are so close! Good luck!

yeppers.  They typically do this type of thing towards the end to psych you out & as you said, get every last dollar they can!  less than a month til July, keep it going & you'll be done!

Thanks so much everyone!! I’m such a nervous wreck, I want this to be over so much. I really miss enjoying being a nurse and taking care of people. When I get through with this cat and mouse game I’m going to do as much as I am to educate people on how to interact with the board. It’s so degrading that it’s difficult to hold your head up and do what’s right.

I'm shocked that they were even able to do that. Why couldn't they drug test you on the spot ? Unbelievable. By doing what they did, they slandered your name, and that's defamation. I'd get a better attorney if you can afford it and sue that person (but they probably called anonymously, so I'm not sure how that would even work out). Not that it matters now, you're almost done, but IDK man if I found out someone reported me I would offer a hair drug test. Those are pretty accurate. I can't believe they didn't tell you on the spot.

When it happened to me, I was working and was approached privately. I was asked to go home (census was low anyway) and within 24 hours I had a lawyer who was very helpful.

Honestly, without recovery I would not know to stop using and something worse could've happened - whether it be to a patient, or to myself. Luckily nothing happened to my patients that day and it was a pretty easy day w. low acuity patients.

Anyway, sounds like some of these people have already given some good answers, and honestly they make sense to me. They just want to make sure you're not "celebrating early" ? Congrats on leaving the program.

Don’t be surprised if they test you more frequently and/or do Peth test which is a blood test for alcohol metabolites. This do this toward the end. I’ve also heard of people getting hair and nail tests done towards the end also. Good luck!

Lucylu123 Are you still on this forum?  You are the only one I've seen here who got a similar contract as me and I would love to know how the end went and how you've done afterwards!  Sending hope that all went well ???

I know I'm a little late to this post, LOL but I've been digging around the internet because I have my evaluation/1st assessment coming up on Monday. I got arrested for a dui but it was dropped by the DA because I wasn't drinking and driving (long story) but I was still told I had to self report. So I did and the BON still wants me to get the evaluation done and I know I will be drug tested. I am prescribed quite a few things that would come up on a UA. I know that it's OK since I have a prescription but I just don't want it to like freak them out. So I was just wondering what drugs do they test for on these tests?

Opiates , stimulants benzodiszepinex etc

In some states there are lawyers who know the evaluators who are reasonable.  I hope you are using one. If not I'd get one if you have the option for an independent evaluation following your evaluation.

I have a lawyer who seems to be decent. But if this place comes back and says I need to do there program I'm going to request to be evaluated from another place. I have heard HORROR stories about this place and I know people that are in it and they hate their lives. The program doesn't help them at all and causes an extreme amount of stress and anxiety.
