Recognized by coworkers on AllNurses.com?

I try pretty hard to remain anonymous on this forum - wont' divulge how. I see others describing situations in very detailed posts, also listing state info or a supposedly first name. Wondering if anyone has ever had the experience of someone recognizing the situation described in the post and knowing that the post is about problems with that person. I imagine that could cause real problems at work. Currently in a situation where my coworker seems to know something "by osmosis", wondering if this could be how or if the coworker is fishing.

You can stay incognito here for years if you take a few precautions. Lord knows I have never been recognized and I have been coming here for 10 years. Don't be too specific when talking about your situation. If you have to change a few minor details to throw people off. If someone ask you quite innocently where you work don't tell them, it might be your boss. They only time I have mentioned a place where I have worked is when I have been out of there 15 or more years. I am sorry I am so paranoid but I have strong opinions about managment and they are the ones with the power. I am sure I have been targeted for dismissal for expressing just the mildest of my opinions. If they only knew what I really thought of them. Lucky I have always quite before they could fire me.

Although not been recognised or recognised others from here I have met a few and spoke to others on the phone which was nice

In an age where employers monitor off-duty employees via MySpace and Facebook, one can't be too careful.

hey, i like this website.i need this website to vent.

i feel i can spew. whatever happened to freedom of speech anyway??

here you can say what bothers you, scream, yell, rant, rave and be comforted by peers. (real peers) we need that. can there be something in the 'bylaws' that says what is printed on allnurses stays in allnurses and can't be used against you in a court of law :bluecry1: ???

you can tell the pioneers, they have the arrows in their backs.

Yes, putting your name, location, and such on here would make it easy for someone to know who you are and I would hope those posters know that.

Some venters write a book about the incident that happened just last night, with such incredible detail that I would think any coworker reading it could recognize the situation and take that info to the buddy that is being vented about. Not likely that the exact same scenario would occur in the same day even in this very large world of nursing.

Like I said, I try very hard to remain anonymous, but occasionally think I might have revealed a bit too much info. And somehow a current coworker seems to know stuff about me through unknown channels.

I was recognized, but the person didn't confront me openly, but asked some pointed questions.

The unit was a very "unique" one, and not one that would be in most hospitals.

I had had some difficulty with some of the ancillary personnel, and posted on some travel issues. Most of the post was very complimentary to the facility. This was a facility that wanted to hire me or travelers like me, and wanted to know the issues that might improve retention.

I was still offered a job there There was no anger regarding the issue, just a ,"Please tell us about these issues so that we can improve the situation...as we value your opinion and value you".

This is a facility that is considered one of the top in the nation, and it shows.

I have not recognized any situations, and to be truthful, I hope that I never do. Would hate to have someone describe me and I wonder who the heck they are. But in reality, it is better to be more anonymous, because there is more honesty (hopefully) in our threads and posts.

See, now I'm worried that I should change my username (it *was* my name) and hide all the info about me. And I don't start nursing school for almost 8 months! But, the more I read these forums, the more I get worried about working in an environment full of catty women (Currently, I think I work mostly with men, and some women). No real drama to speak of. But, from these forums, it seems like nursing will be a whole different ball game.

I've recognized and been recognized by classmates on here. I never say anything here about a person, facility, institution, etc that I wouldn't say face to face. :saint:

Suggest you take measures to be anonymous. When I setup my user name, I remember reading a suggestion to be careful and not use identifying info.

Yes, nursing will be a whole different ball game. But you can change ball parks till you find a reasonable game going. Good luck to you in your new career.

I am pretty sure that you are all my co-workers and are trying to see what I say behind your back...sure you say your from Canada...but I know it's you Alice. Always trying to trick me...sneaky, sneaky.

Honestly though I have read some posts and thought that I must work with that person. However, if most of us are trying to be vague enough not to blow our cover then most of our posts are like horoscopes...so vague that they can easily be applied to many situations.

A co-worker of mine posts regularly, we are friends and I let him know that I knew after a while. We both understand that nothing that is said here needs to go any farther, and as we see eye to eye on most things share many of the same frustrations. I have on occasion asked him if he was following a particular thread, but that is as far as it goes.

At least now I know that he will never vent about me here, at least not without changing his username!
