RECIPROCITY to California - RN Graduate from the PHILIPPINES

World Registration

Published

Hello all,

I am a BSN graduate from the Philippines, and an RN there and in New York.

I'm sure you guys know that international BSN graduates has not been getting through the California BRN since year 2010, because of the issue that foreign graduates (esp. from the Philippines) lack units during our college / Nursing years. This said, I know zero of my colleagues who applied to take the NCLEX got their ATT, since o'10.

I recently applied to have my license in New York endorsed to California, and noted that one requirement they had is that I must provide my college transcripts from where I graduated (again, in the Philippines).

I am currently in CA, but I am thinking to just move to New York, if I am only waiting for my application to get rejected because I lack units, or cases/caseloads.

I'm looking for someone with the same case I am in, or who was in the same case.. Please help me, should I just go to New York? :( :( :(

you are in the game so far, they will not send you a letter tho, unless they just started doing that. Go on their website, and follow the prompts. It will tell you what month they are looking at applications that they just cashed the checks for. they cashed my check in August 2014, and I received my license the end of November, 2014. I'm assuming you are checking their online board for updates of this nature, that's why you know they cashed your check (in addition to your bank statement). The board also tells you what applications are in process from what month they received everything and cashed your check. The California BOard has a plethera of issues causing what everyone is going thru right now. I, personally, applied back in 2010, sent all the same stuff, and a year later, finally got someone on the phone to find out what happened to it, he said "oh yeah, I've got it right here". IT WENT IN THE TRASH! But they never cashed my check. THIS TIME, I called the DORA, "Department of Regulatory Agencies", and boy did I get an earful about how the Nursing Board was handling things. She KINDLY sent me not ONE, but TWO fingerprint cards, I redid everything, sent it in last June, 2014, CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT, spoke directly with my nursing school administration, and they sent my transcript right then to california by e-mail, and sent me back an e-mail that it had been received by the Calif. board, also I called the Colorado board of nursing licensure, and had them send everything to Calif., again, I received verification by e-mail all this was done. I had to jump thru some hoops, but it worked! I seriously think the California Board is still throwing applications in the trash unless you force it upon them. So, like so many other things, you have to do not only your job, but theirs as well. SO BE IT. I am licensed as an RN in California, (ADN) and have received so darn many job offers I am going to have to go out there for two months to interview, and decide where I want to live. Northern California of course, maybe as far south as Livermore. Not too far from Stanford. But the traffic may encourage me to stay more eastward to work. Not too far from the ocean tho! Good luck to you, the pay seems to be commensurate with the areas, but not in the home health field. California medical doesn't pay enough to support anyone, maybe $20.00/visit !! Hospitals are MUCH better, $50.00/hr and up, I hear Kaiser pays $70.00/hr, and the DOC pays even more (department of corrections) with bonuses! I've done quite a bit of homework on all this as I intend to move out there by the summer. My ear is sore from all the phone calls. Now I don't know anything about southern california's pay rates or job rates. Only from San Luis Obispo northward. Again, good luck!

Yes and No.....

Yes, if you meet all the requirements of the NV BON.

No, if you don't meet all of them.

There are some who have reported good success and others who have to re-take courses or need to provide the local PH nursing license. There are some who had batchmates from the exact same schools and one was granted the license and another one denied.

So the real answer to your question as well as the other several hundreds or thousands (since so many applied into CA, got rejected, then went to other states to get a license and now wanting to get endorsed and wasting more money (for new non-refundable application fees and possibly for English proficiency cost and course evaluations) and more time (waiting months for testing dates and results) is to turn in your application.

At this point, we're all mind readers and with hundreds of different possible answers.

The true answer is to simply submit your completed application and let the NV BON evaluators review it. They are the ones with the only final decision as to giving the license.

I applied to california by endorsement last nov 2014 and was just received a mail from them asking me of these additional requirements:

1. Cooy of clinical rotation schedule

2. OR and DR cases

3. Academic calendar

I am a graduate since 2008 and my school said they do not have those requirements and the licensing agency dispose records every 2 years. I practice here in NC as an ED RN but have to go to cali for my husband's promotion. What is a good option? Help!

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

California BRN wont take that into consideration. If you cannot provide the requested documents you will be denied. Do you have your own copies? Was any of the documentation submitted to the PRC?

Justbeachynurse: yes i have submitted all of my cases in prc but unfortunately i hve no copy :(

Perhaps the PRC retained copies. Worth a try if you want a chance at CA licensing. I know calendar is to determine concurrency as well as whether you were physically present for the program (checked against passport)

Will the nursing school give that one too? The calendar? They say prc dispose copies every 2 yrs

I have no idea. You won't know either unless you contact them and inquire. Maybe you will luck out

Hopefully! Thanks :/

Hi,

I have the same problem and I'm wondering if anybody can give me some advice.

Like a lot of you guys here. I graduated 2009 in the Philippines and move to New York 2 weeks after. Took NCLEX-RN and passed, I've been working since.

Now, 5 years later, I had to move here in California due to my husband's work. Started my application since September 2014. October 2014, CA-BRN send me a letter requesting for additional information from me and my school. There were no problems providing additional information from my end. The problem started when they needed a copy of my Clinical Cases and Academic Calendar.

First, BRN did not send those information from my school requesting additional information. I had to email a copy to my sister (in the Philippines) to inform my school regarding those additional information that BRN was asking. (Not really a big deal..) Second, BRN received and signed the documents from my Nursing School Dec 2014. Gave them couple of weeks to process. When I called BRN for a status, they keep on saying that I'm still missing the Record of my Clinical Cases and Academic Calendar. I called BRN again and again thinking that maybe they didn't get to my school documents yet.

Feb 2015, I called over and over again, to get any status and still getting the same answer, "We still don't have the information we needed from your Nursing School", I had enough. Me and my husband, drove 5 hours to the office of BRN in Sacramento, guess what? Same answer, they don't have the information needed for my endorsement application.

I requested to talk to the Licensing Supervisor, and I had a pleasure of talking to him. He explained to me what's going on with my endorsement application. I also asked for his advice and followed it as soon as we got back from the trip. I contacted my sister, and send over the same documents with the tracking number and it was signed received 2 weeks ago. I also emailed the Licensing Supervisor to confirm he got my documents from my School and he replied he did and handed it over to my Evaluator.

Today, I called to follow up for any status? Then, I got the same answer....

Please, can somebody helped me or give me some advice? It will be greatly appreciated!!!
