Hey everybody! I'm starting LVN school on Friday and I thought it would be a good idea if we got a thread (is that what this thing is called?) going for snack and food ideas. I know it would help me and maybe a few others! So post your go to grab and run snacks for school and clincals and those easy peesy dinner ideas! Thanks!
This is a such a great thread! Thanks everyone for your input. I just started nursing school in January and I definitely can use these tips!
Thanks! I think everyone can! Especially the people like me who aren't use to packing food to eat on the go! Took me a while to comprehend that I need to take food and snacks with me EVERYWHERE. My appetite is outrageous.
This is a great thread. I've put on some weight in NS and I'm hoping to lose 10-15 pounds in the next 4 months. Great tips! Any suggestions for someone trying to cut the diet coke addiction? Cucumber slices in water or lemon in water are not doing the trick.
I personally haven't experienced that coke addiction but I hear it's a tough habit to break! Be strong, you'll be able to do it! I read a recipe for flavored water where you put your fruit of choice in a gallon of water and let it sit over night. It's suppose to give the water a more intense flavor than just cucumber and lemon slices. Hopefully it will be a little helpful.
Recent breakfast that I have been eating:Baked tilapia (lightly seasoned anyway you want. I use lemon pepper)
Steamed broccoli
boiled eggs
brown rice (sauteing some fresh garlic and green onions (aka chives?) takes this up a notch for me! Mmm mmm mmm!)
To me it's absolutely delicious, to others it's somewhat bland so you might have to spice it up to your liking. I eat this for lunch too, it works both ways for me.
Sounds delish!
Pita crackers and red bell pepper hummus
yogurt
raw avocado with boiled egg
Cutie's (the citrus fruit)
pack a salad and put dressing (I like ginger dressings) in separate mini container
homemade salsa with tortilla chips (Avocado Feta Salsa Recipe - Allrecipes.com)
grilled catfish with lemon and pepper
chicken salad to make sandwiches
classic peanut butter and banana sandwich
Naked Smoothie drinks (wide variety of flavors)
I don't have a name for this one, but it's good
cut bell pepper, 1 package cream cheese, fresh cilantro, (mix in a bowl and spread on large tortilla)
add turkey meat and slices of cucumber
Roll up and cut away! SO fresh!
I made Red Lobster Shrimp Pasta last night and my husband ate TWO plates.

I added tbs fresh grated ginger, diced bell pepper, fresh parsley & chives from my garden, and the chicken broth instead clam juice. So far this is the best shrimp pasta I have made and I've been working on the perfect one for 3 years!

Take caffeine pills it will cut the cravings and give you energy I quit drink coke a month a go and I started counting calories I've lost 11 lbs
The semester will be starting soon! I'm going to make salad in mason jars(google it-I saw it on pineterest) for class and clinicals. I'll make a whole mess of them on Sunday night and a big pitcher of nearly unsweetened ice tea in the fridge for caffine(about 1/4 cup sugar and some stevia for a 1 gallon pitcher).
Drinking la croix water was helped me greatly reduce my diet coke consumption and I've lost 8 pounds so far this summer since keeping track of my calories and portions.
