Just curious what are some reasons why a nurse would lose her license or go to jail? Just curious if anyone has any stories?
What kind of license would a nursing student lose?
I heard a story from an instructor that when she worked for another school, a student faked having cancer, school started a scholarship in her name, and she started working on a bone marrow transplant floor. She ended up overdosing and her friend took her to the ER and stated that she had cancer. When the ER doctor started examining her, he found that there was nothing under her bandages. Her license was suspended pending a psych evaluation. Our class happened to attend the BON hearing that involved her case. They permanently revoked her license.

I know I should be horrified, but I'm actually more...fascinated.
When I was in school, a local peds RN had her license permanently revoked because she was injecting her son with human feces.
She did go to jail. Now she's a photographer and we have mutual Facebook friends.
Every other case I know of personally involves drugs - although none of them went to jail.
Hired as a nurse, pending licensure it said. I didn't read that she ever actually passes her NCLEX?
She has a license number on the Indiana BON site. States obtained by examination and the status is suspended. You're right though, it doesn't say it in the article. I read too fast and didn't notice the pending remark. Then I was curious so I had to check it out.
Thanks for doing the legwork!! í ½í¸Š

I know 2 people who have lost their nursing licenses. One lost it after she refused to attend a recovery program after diverting and testing positive. The other never even appeared before the board (she was busted for falsifying documentation, including signing other nurses names to work that was never done. Twit signed names of nurses who were on vacation!)
I know of 5 nurses who were sanctioned, and none of them lost their licenses because they did everything the board said. All but one have an unencumbered license and that one will has 2 more years of supervision. Four were diverting and the fifth tested positive after an on the job injury. (And this is why you don't assume you won't get tested after employment and go and smoke pot! You probably will get caught!)
