Really need some encouragement...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am really looking for some encouragement right now. This semester I am taking Physiology and Chemistry together and it just seems like there is so much to do and no time to do it. I am so overwhelmed with all my homework and trying to find time to study. Today I had a test in Physio and I feel like I totally bombed it and I studied so hard. I feel like just giving up all together but i know its always been my dream to be a nurse. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to juggle school, work and kids and everything else in life...Thanks :o

Although I don't have nearly as much going on as you, I would suggest prayer. It works well for me and God always has a way of helping me, if I let Him. Good luck with the rest of your semester :)

Specializes in Maternity.

that sounds like my last semester. i took a&p2 with micro, have a 1 yr old (single mom no less!), and worked. it can be very overwhelming but don't get discouraged. it's still very early in the semester. try to find your rhythm. sometimes it takes a few weeks to find out what works best with each class. i had a rough start with micro but then got a hang for the exams. i pulled out with an a in a&p and an a- in micro and an a in my other class.

good luck!!

just try to stay positive & do your best. :)

someone told this to me when i was stressing... "if you don't have a smile i'll give you one of mine."

....you'll get through it.

good luck and best wishes!!!

Thank you guys so much!!! I really needed that advice. I'm just gonna try and stay positive and pray that everything will work out for me...

First of all, hang in there, it will be worth it. Secondly, I wanted to mention that one thing that has significantly helped me is to use the online resources provided with your book. Most textbooks now either come with a cd or the first couple pages will have a website address for additional resources. It is another way to study the material and can help to drive home concepts you might struggle with. I know it has improved my grades and given me an alternative study option. Best of luck through this semester and onward.

When I took Physio, I happen to also take it with Chemistry and did well so let me give you some adivce. Study as you go, keep up with the work, and most importantly: take it ONE step at a time. Yes Physio is hard and Chemistry is hard. If you lump everything into one, it will overwhelm you and you will feel discouraged. Look at your schedule, see which test is coming up first, study that one as your priority for now. THen study really hard the days before the test. THen switch your priority class to the other and study accordingly. Don't ignore the other class, but just keep up. Read ahead so you have an idea of what is being lectured. Do unnecessary workbook problems for CHemistry just to make sure you understand.

im taking AP1 and chem this semester.. and possibly AP2 with micro bio in the fall... dont worry well do fine. just keep your head up! youll have to want it

it comes down to being really organized and staying on top of your syllabus. i am taking my pre-reqs (ap1, micro and chem) all online, so i have to be even more organized, since i don't attend a class anywhere.

get a calendar or planner and get all the due dates out - just looking at them on paper will help with the anxiety. then you can strategize available homework/study times. take advantage of downtimes. i try to carry at least one textbook, in case i am waiting somewhere. try to find a quiet area in the lunchroom to read during breaks and lunch.

and remember your screen name "want2banurse09" - you want to be a nurse. keep your eyes on the prize. and continue to come here for encouragement, as we are going thru the journey with you. good luck!

just like what topcat said...

your screen name says it all, so just hang in there. You might seem overwhelmed right now, but you can definitely do it. I second the calendar and have a study schedule plan and stick with it.

Just always remember, you want and will be a nurse someday..

I know exactly how u feel. When I was going through my prereqs I would stress out so bad! Especially exams for science classes. It's the pressure of having to do extremely well to have a good chance at nursing school. But I found the best way to deal with my stress was to find some motivation. For me my parents are mines I want to make them proud and I want to be the one take care of them financially. So I tell myself push forward and work hard everything should fall into place.

Good luck with everything. Study hard but also give yourself some time to relax. I'm sure you'll do well in your classes.
