  1. 2 Physical Education classes, to finish up my General ed. then start nursing school fall! :)
  2. i almost did the western career college LVN program in Sac. I went to the campus took all the required exams, and met with a financial aid advisor. I think when i met with the financial aid lady she told me that the max to receive for grants was 5k and then the rest would have to be covered through loans. Which i think was around 23k left if i remember correctly. She told me that if i really wanted to do the program, there were different types of loans, that they could help me out with. So, if you really want to do the program, i'm pretty sure western will help you find a way to pay the rest off with loans. good luck with everything
  3. ever since i started applying for schools in december, i really wanted to post a reply on this thread.. and now i get to!!!! accepted to Butte!! fall 2009!! who0-hoo!!!!! :) congrats to those accepted, and good luck to those still waiting!
  4. hm, maybe you should try working in an area less stressful or busy. Something like an outpatient surgery or something. try being more careful and realizing what's happening around you and what your doing. don't be discouraged, as long as you know that your working hard and truly making an effort to be the best nurse, you can continue to improve. But in a career such as nursing and dealing with patients you must realize and make sure that there must be no room for error when dealing with patients. Just learn to be extra careful, and double check! best of luck!
  5. i honestly say $1,700 per semester is not bad at all!! My cc here the total cost for the 2 year ADN program is about 5k. so, if you divide that by 4 semesters the total for each semester would be $1250. I say if your really committed to being a nurse then go through the Private route and take out a private loan to help you out. But if your unsure about the career i would say attend a CC take some prerequisites and see if nursing is for you.
  6. most nursing schools require you to take certain classes before getting accepted such as microbiology, physiology, anatomy etc. took me about a year to get those core prerequisites done, and now i'm applying to nursing schools. waitlist schools estimate around 3 years (i'm waitlist number 522 at my cc) so to kill time waiting to get accepted somewhere i'm working on my GE's and taking classes to lift up my GPA. I say, if you really want to do it, go for it. I'm 22, and all my older classmates tell me being in your twenties is the best time to go to school and build having a career. They tell me by the time i'm 30 i'll have a career and be set for life already. Nursing is always a good major to get into, if you take the prereqs and becoming an rn doesn't work out for you, you can get into radiology or become an lvn. LVN programs usually have a lot fewer prereqs to apply if you want to go through that route. best of luck!
  7. i would stay in the class. Try talking to your instructor to see if you could still be able to lift up the grade to at least a B by the end of the semester. If worse comes to worse and you end up getting a C in the course, try applying to schools that will accept that grade. also, i asked one school around my area about retakes and she said that if the grade is a C- or lower they will deduct points for retake, but if you get a C or above and retake there will be no penalty. But i'm not sure about the school that your planning to apply to nursing school to.
  8. i came across something similar as well. I'm 22 years old, and the classmate i was talking to is 62 years old. While we were talking about Nursing school and trying to get into a program, he told me that he would probably just wait to be admitted through waitlist. He then proceeded to tell me that by the time that he would be enrolled in Nursing school, graduate and finally start working, he said he would have about a year to two years left to work as an RN and then retire! he was serious too. I don't know for some reason i felt upset, I'm not the type to tell a person to not follow their dreams and all, but I just think since he's much older and only plans to work as an RN for 2 years, that his spot should be given to someone else planning to really work long in the field.
  9. i'll be waiting with you. i have to wait until june too!! goodluck! :)
  10. Here around the sacramento area, i applied to Yuba college in marysville. I received my contract in the mail for my waitlist number and i believe i was number 567, an estimated 3 to 4 year wait to get into the program
  11. i know i'm like that too. Especially during lecture I want piece and quiet without any distractions so I can be able to listen. My advice to you is to scope out the classroom area and find a quieter area where you can sit (heck i'd pull over a chair and sit in a corner if i had to), and tell the instructor that there are particular students in the class that are being disruptive to your learning, and asked to be moved. I've talked to my physiology teacher before about students making comments and talking during class, and it was no big deal. Teacher announced to the class that it was brought to her attention that some students were being disruptive and she became more aware of what students were doing while she lectured and if students were talking, the teacher would quickly say something. I'm not a very confrontational person but I'm pretty sure your not the only student in the class that feels that way, besides no one has the right to disrupt your learning. tell the teacher if you have to.
  12. Nope not at all! I'm considering going to pi for nursing school as well. I know my gpa isn't good enough to compete with other prenursing majors. I received my waitlist contract to Yuba college here in Cali estimated wait is 3-4 years. My mom keeps telling me I'll have a degree already if I wait that long and go to school in the Philippines. I've considered going to private schools around my area but it's so expensive. I've really given it some serious thought but I think if I stayed in the Philippines I would get sooo homesick. I say if you want to go to nursing school in the pi do it! I heard they have some really good nursing programs there. :)
  13. It's okay, don't be discouraged it could be worse. I received my contract to be on a waitlist for Yuba college here in Cali and was number 567 (or somewhere around that #). An estimated 3-4 year wait to get in. Nothing I can do but push forward and apply to every school around my area. Don't give up! :)
  14. Yeah the waitlists to get into nursing school is pretty ridiculous. Last month I emailed a lady at the Yuba college nursing department to make sure they received my nursing app. She told me that she did and that there was also an anticipated four year wait. I talked to a counselor at my school who helps with the nursing apps for sac city, she said they received over 800 applicants for fall 09. Just two days ago I also turned in an app for sf city and I was the 485 person to turn it in. I also went to napa recently for an orientation to obtain an application. OMG the room was filled up! People were lining up all around the room shoulder to shoulder I could easiy say there was about 200 ppl there. I have to admit the process of getting into nursing school is so discouraging and depressing. It's like all I can depend on is getting into a school with lottery. Even with that most people say it takes them about 2 yrs to get in.
  15. CONGRATS! i'm so happy for you!! :)
