Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2011

Hey Everyone!!

I'm applying to CC for the Fall of 2011...here are my stats:

In A&P I my grade is an "A"

My overall GPA is a 3.98

I am taking the TEAS test this Saturday at Captial and I am very stressed....

I also have 4 small children which is making this even more of a challenge..... Yikes....HaHa...I thrive under pressure

@ krettman: I echo the good stat's comments! I have a 16 m/o son at home, and am working now, looking for a career shift. I can only imagine what a challenge it is with 4 kids! Good luck to you, I'm sure you will do well on the TEAS. Are you working now too?

Hi everyone. I am applying to GCC for the next fall. I have tried calling directly but no one has called back and got transferred a few times. I am trying to test out of the required computer class requirement. Do I have to take a clep exam or does gateway have this test directly? Any help would be appreciated. Good luck to all!

I tried to test out of it. I went to Northwest and took a test. I got a 74, 75 is passing. That makes me very frustrated because obviously I know how to use a computer, I grew up with computers. I'm in no way trying to demean all the pro nurses out there, but my mom is a nurse and her computer skills are about on the same level as mine were in 5th grade. The only other way to test out is to take the CLEP but that tests a whole array of computing that is more for accountant and financial ppl. I am going to try to see if they will let me take it again. It consists of basic techniques in Word, Access, Powerpoint and exel. Why didn't I pass? Because I have used Word for Mac my whole life and as the test is timed I didn't have enough time to transition back to a PC.

Looks like a lot of great candidates for the program. Best of luck to all of you! Not really sure on the GPA. Depends on which credits get transferred, but I think it's a 3.2; A in A&P I; 87 TEAS score & re-taking this Friday. (Oh & applying to GW b/c of the night program.)

I am SO nervous. Do you guys have a back-up plan in place if you don't get in this year? I'd love to hear any/all thoughts on applying to this program & others!

When I went to a nursing info session I believe they said incomplete app notifications are sent out in March, otherwise you won't hear from them until April.

I got an email today with instructions to check your status etc.

Me too! That email would've saved them from about a thousand phone calls from me alone. Good luck to everyone!

Hmm...my back up plan is in flux, I may take the CNA course and try to get some experience that way, but there is really no way I could make myself much more competitive for the CC program with the way they calculate the scores. My GPA is high (if they calculate it the way I expect them too), my TEAS was a high-percentile and I had good A&P scores. I only wish they took all of us based on merit, not the lottery system. Then I'd feel better about getting in!
