U.S.A. Connecticut

Hello all,

It's almost that time of year again! I'm applying to the 2011 class which the application period begins this November 1st. We have two months to prepare our applications! Anyone else applying? I've seen the support the last year's class has with this sort of thread and I figured there should be one started for 2011 applicants. What is your TEAS score? GPA? A&P I grade? What were the averages that the 2010 applicants had and they are now starting the fall 2010 program?? Good luck!!!

I sent my application in!!!

Me too! Best application I ever filled out...I just wish it didn't take so long to find out if you are accepted or not!

Were you able to do the online application? It wouldn't work for me, I had to print and mail.

I was...I had to allow the pop-up's though, I usually block them and it didn't work at first. It took me longer to call ATI and get my password reset so I could get my TEAS score report!

Very easy, this appplication didn't require a large envelope, and did not give me a headache. Best of luck!

Hi everyone. I am applying to GCC for the next fall. I have tried calling directly but no one has called back and got transferred a few times. I am trying to test out of the required computer class requirement. Do I have to take a clep exam or does gateway have this test directly? Any help would be appreciated. Good luck to all!

They are having an information session tonight at 5:00PM. I am going.

@Toonis: I took a Database Systems course when I was getting my Bachelor's degree and Three Rivers said that they would accept it in place of the computer course...so did Gateway...good luck!

hello, i just got back from the information session, testing out of the computer class is credit by exam, but they did not have any information about the testing. they recommended taking it winter semester.

here are some things i thought were important may be from website also, or new for this year:

  1. they are trying to send out acceptance letters a little earlier, march vs april early may.
  2. gpa for classes needed for the program are calculated for any classes taken regardless of when it was taken. classes that are electives, or not required for the nursing program are only calculated if taken within the last 5 years.
  3. starting february 1, 2011 teas will be version 5.0
  4. northwestern is evening/weekends
  5. 200/680 applicants from last year did not meet requirements.
  6. a large percentage of people applied after january 15th last year, some did not get in because they did not have time to resubmit missing documentation.
  7. applications can be done online now.
  8. they said to check mycommnet regularly because they will start posting missing nursing application documents, where the nursing application is i believe. this system is not in place yet, they are hoping to have it in place for this years applicants.
  9. they went over gateways schedule for each semester. they said they average a 93% nclex-rn pass rate.
  10. they may change to monday clinicals in the future, because no other school does monday clinicals and that would possibly open up more options.
  11. they went over what is expected, family seminar, amount of school, study, and careplan time to expect to put in. it was very informative. i was very impressed with the remedial/clinical site instructor. it seemed like she really wants to help nursing students.

i hope this helps. i know some of this information is on the website. the session i attended before i start taking pre-reqs was not this helpful.

best of luck to everyone applying this year

@student nurse: Do you have any specifics about the schedule at gateway? Days of the weeks, times, etc? I'd appreciate anything you can pass on!

Nur 101 M/R 4-6, T/W clinicals 3-930 later 3-1030

Mostly st Ray/Yale 6 weeks of lab then hospital sites. Going to day program maybe in the future wasn't really paying attention to that part??

Nur 102 same schedule but clincals 3-1030 + pharmacology

More hospitals for clinicals mentioned: midstate, middlesex, HH, CVH, griffith and Lawrence memorial

They try to alternate sites so you aren't making a long commute two rotations in a row

Nur 3rd sem. M/T 4-6, W/R clinicals 3-11 + pharm

Nur 4th sem. Tues 4-7, W/R clinicals 3-1130 + two other classes

Thank you the info. Did they say how big the class size that gets accepted?
