Random Thoughts: School Nurses

Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!

My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"

I was just informed by a KG student that bubble gum, grape flavored is what he needs to make his ear ache go away. Alas, no bubble gum in this office. He left disappointed.

Would he have settled for another flavor? These statements always make me wonder what gets said at home. The teachers here have always said they know far too much about our home life than they care to.

I had the worst day- nothing tragic, thank God, but just Arrrrrrrrrggggh!

I was so frustrated all day... and I turned around and saw 2 skeletons that they moved in to my office because "I'm the only one who has the room" and I forgot they were there and SCREAMED!!!

Which made everyone in the office die laughing.

I told them if they were that cheerful they clearly weren't sick and they can ALL go back to class.

I dribbled soup all over my scrubs.

I'm having a bad hair day, so I'm doing a Pebbles Flintstone pony on top of my head, sans bone.

I just threw a highlighter across the room. I feel better now.

I kinda feel bad about this making me grin. :) Because I'm no longer working as a school nurse as of Friday.

But I do that same thing - jump and scream - for no real good reason. My family loves it when they walk into the kitchen and I have my back to them and then jump, screaming.

Snowyj - love that cartoon about the Janitor-Parent Conference. Need to steal and send to our janitors. Well, technically they are not "our" janitors. I don't work there anymore!~

I had one come in this morning. He has been having sharp chest pain that lasts about a minute. He has been having this pain 1-2 x week for 3 years but has never mentioned it to his parents.

Doesn't that make you feel trusted? The scary thing is, do you take it seriously or let it go? I would probably pass it on to parents. Not sure I could deal with the guilt if anything would happen.

His mom is also a nurse, he just loves grape bubble gum! I have known this one since birth, he knows I love grape bubble gum too!

We've had indoor recess for over a week. It is non-stop raining in GA since who knows when? The rainier it is, the crazier it gets in the clinic. Please, Sun, come out & stay!!

Someone once told me that I'm not officially a school nurse until I scrape POO from a SHOE.....well folks......its official!!! UGH!

That person was wrong. That makes you a dog owner. Very different from a health care professional.

The entire time I am scraping the POO with a tongue depressor, I am telling myself "Its better than dealing with trach phlegm". Still LOVE SCHOOL NURSING!!!
