Quota/year?

Published

Hi all, I met a healthcare recruiter last week, passed the pre-qualifying test, submitted my CV for review. I was told that the quota for med-surg nurses for this year for army is almost filled, which means no hiring till oct 09 when next fiscal year kicks in. I am not very clear about this...does this mean my recruiter has met his hiring quota for the year, or is their a specific numeric quota for army reserve for each year...also, is their any way i can still hope to be hired in this fiscal year...?? appreciate your rsponse guys, I owe a lot to this forum!!

I see.

I recently put my application in. The board meets this Month (march) anyone know the date in which I can reasonably get a response? And also, I see only one more OBLC this year for nurses from their site which is in JULY? I am an experienced ICU nurse. I hope everything goes well.

Ameddrep,

Off the topic I know, and its good to see someone from your side of the house on this forum. You can undoubtedly provided some insight that others of us can not. Welcome.

In that light, can you provide some insight into what happens to our accession packet and complete the DODMERB exam and our recruiter then forwards it up the chain?

I only ask because I was commissioned in July of 08. I just received orders yesterday. Based on what I have seen on this forum, 9 months is an extraordinarily long wait. My recruiter gave me some insight but his info was very generic and guarded. I am happy to finally have received orders but find myself wondering where in the chain of handling things could have went awry.

Thank you,

Congrats and welcome to the club.

Thanks 66HM5!

Question for you, or anyone else who can answer. How easy is it to get two identifiers? I am currently an EMT-IV and soon an RN. I want to take the critical care course and get my 8A identifier but I also love emergency medicine and want the M5 identifier. Am I going to be forced to choose just one?

Not forced. You make your own way in the Army... they will give you the opportunity.

I was commissioned with the M5 identifier. So I am not certain how to actually obtain it after accession. I have been an RN for 3 years but my first and only position has been the ER. I was an EMT-P (paramedic) for 10 years prior to that, so the transition to the ER right out of nursing school was smooth for me. I was a hard charger (although some argue masochist) right out of nursing school and obtained the CEN certification during my second year of nursing. Due to the CEN cert I was able to commission with the M5 identifier. As far as obtaining it after you join, I can only speak for the Reserves, but as far as I know you need 2 years full time in the ER and have your clinical supervisor sign off a skills check list... or you could take the Army's Emergency Nurse Course. (which I will do anyway).

I have never worked in the Unit so I cant speak to the 8A identifier but the Army also offers a Critical Care Nurse Course. ( I want to take that one too).

Anyone else feel free to chime in.

Hope that helps.
